"Can you even imagine the mental state of a person who seeks joy in breaking into a home of sleeping residence, waking them up violently, tying up the men of the house, raping the women, killing them, then raping the men, and finally killing them, and leaving feeling... satisfied?"
Sure, you bet...
But I have little time for the obvious...
I have little concern or need to contemplate or determine the "mental state" of someone coming into my home in this manner...Intent or desire of that person(s) is absolutely secondary and irrelevant at that time...
They will get one command, to do what I tell them to do, and if they comply, everyone leaves, breathing on their own...
If they do not, I have "Stanley Steemer's" number around here somewhere...
Unfortunately, it's a tragedy anyway you look at it...

I wasn't really asking whether or not you believed that it exists, simply can you understand how this person could have gotten to this point in their life.
As for me, they won't be getting a command. If you are in my home, at night, and obviously gained entry through means other than my invitation, if found, you will be promptly perforated. No questions asked.

Anygun, your point is exactly what I was thinking as I was reading this. The first time one of these little thugs robs someone "for fun" and gets shot, the family will be all over the victim like white on rice. And what's worse is that some jury will want to give the thug's family the victim's money.
Law-abiding citizens need legal protection from this.

Sure, I understand perfectly what you mean...kauboy wrote:I wasn't really asking whether or not you believed that it exists, simply can you understand how this person could have gotten to this point in their life.

There are a lot more "worse" cases out there than some can imagine...
But I like to believe that we all possess a confident, command quality that makes a dangerous situation either safe and under our complete control...Or, finished...
But never assume anything though...

If there is a segment of society that is actively doing this "play jacking", then I can see a lawsuit that claims "Why did he have to kill my darling son? He was just playing and would never hurt anyone!"

That rectangle described in the story is just about centered over what is commonly referred to as the Gulfton Ghetto. When the Sharpstown area of Houston was a booming suburb in the '70s, huge apartment complexes like Lantern Village Apts. were developed along its outskirts.
When Houston's economy nearly collapsed in the mid '80s, this area and these apartments became ground zero for the decay of all of Southwest Houston. The apartments started renting to anyone who could cough up a few bucks, and most began participating in government-subsidized housing programs.
The Gulfton District became home to the Southwest Cholos gang. Made up mostly of teenage, Central American immigrants, they were nowhere near as violent as something like SW-13, but they were dangerous and pervasive until they started breaking up five or six years ago. An area immediately adjacent to the Gulfton District is Fondren Southwest, where the majority of the poverty-stricken hurricane Katrina evacuees settled, and that area experienced the biggest one-year jump in murder rates of any neighborhood in Houston history (at least I'm fairly sure that last bit is correct).
I won't drive through the Gulfton Ghetto or Fondren Southwest at night. Despite the firepower I'm packin'.
