I have no idea if this is a good price, but I don't recall ever paying $92 for a gun. It's always been more.

That is about what they are worth. You might find one locally and save shipping and a transfer, but around $100 is their value in fair condition.

AIM surplus has em for cheaper, but you'll be looking at equal or a little more after shipping and whether or not you choose the handpick option, but AIM's mosin-nagants come with accessories like sling, mag pouches, bayonet, etc. I'm not sure if budsgunshop offers those extras.

That's $92 dollars delivered. About as cheap as is possible to own one. A few things to consider about the MN rifles:

1) Rich history from the turn of the last century to present day southwest Asia.
2) Cheap to own and shoot. Some ammo is actually cheaper than .22LR.
3) Reasonable shooter. These are combat accurate weapons, not tack drivers. Extremely rugged.
4) Good for hunting. The 7.62x54R is comparable in power to a 30.06. Hunting ammo is more expensive though.
5) We are beginning to see some accessories appear: scope mounts etc.
6) Great fun at a very cheap price. What's not to like?

Forgot to add. Big 5 Sporting goods has the laminated stock version with all accesories for $119. You can hand pick your own. (These are the 91/30 rifle version)

I bought this exact gun from Bud's about 4 months ago. They were offering the same deal then. It is a beatiful gun. All the numbers match and it came with a bayonet, sling, oil can, tool, and other stuff I can't recall. It was covered in cosmoline and required a complete breakdown and cleaning. I bought 400 rounds of surplus ammo for about $90. I admit, I have not had a chance to shoot it, but the reviews say it shoots very well.

Where? The cheapest 54R ammo I find online is $0.18 a round (in a 440 round spam can). I am finding .22LR for $0.03 a round...

Is there some special .22LR match grade ammo that costs over $0.18 a round? I usually buy the cheapest .22LR can find, so it's possible...

I just recently bought a Mosin M44 Carbine. Beautiful gun and beautiful shooter. Lots of fun! Scope mounts can be had that mount by removing the rear sight and installing in that position. That setup requires a long eye relief scope. The original Russion type mount actually screws to the side of the receiver and is much more stable. Some of the feedback I've read on the rear sight removal scope set up is that there can be problems with the screws stripping out and that it loses zero because of that. Cause is related to recoil, which is quite impressive and exacerbated by a steel butt plate. If you use the original Russian type mount I believe you need a bent bolt handle (sniper sytyle) as well. The straight bolt will hit the scope when raised fully otherwise. That's why a lot are using the rear sight mount scope set up. No need for the bent bolt handle as the long eye relief scope is too far back to be hit by the bolt when cycled.

Search Mosin Nagant on this forum and you'll see a couple of threads.

Lots of good information on the web as well, as others note. Read up on the Berdan primed corrosive surplus ammo.

All I know is that I can put a 4 inch group of 5 rounds at 30 yards right out of the store. Even with my old eyes.

Big 5 Sporting Goods has a current sale on the 91/30's with the laminated stock and full accessory kit (bayonet etc). I picked one up yesterday and it was $107 out the door. The flier says $119, but my local store manager says that is a corporate flier and the local stores haves them a bit cheaper. Mine is a beautiful Russian Izhevsk made in 1939. All parts are matching numbers. These are arsenal refinished weapons sold through Century International. Now to remove the cosmoline. Have to keep up the mantra: "cosmoline is our friend, cosmoline is our friend..."

Sorry about my comment on ammo prices. It is NOT cheaper than regular commercial .22LR. I was looking at a pile of match grade .22LR.

And speaking of 22LR's, CDNN has another batch of Russian CM-2 Target (made for the USSR Olympic team) rifles on sale. I almost missed it. $270 IIRC. Great bargain on a really accurate rifle that can match some $2000 .22 Target rifles.

Now if those Korean Garand's and M1 Carbines would only bring prices down a bit.

I'm going to chime in on C&R licenses here. IMHO mine was the best $30 I've ever spent. With the saving on transfer fees, I was in profit by the second C&R firearm I bought. Plus the come direct to your door. Plus you get discounts on other stuff (e.g. from Brownell's). Plus you get to buy direct from some distributors, saving even more.

For those without a C&R, I think the occasional sales (like the Big5 one mentioned) are probably the best route. It may be $5 or so more than AIM, but at least you get to inspect it first.
