Students question safety procedures after armed robber targets campus
We got no text alert or anything," Megan Falcon, a student at San Antonio College, said.
"They need to figure out a way to the the instructors," said Benadives. "Whether it be, like a paging system, I don't know, but they need to let people know before they start locking people in the buildings."
Comments:
Prior school shooters brought their own chain and locks to lock targets in the building so they couldn't get out. San Antonio College provides electronic locks to do that. What a convenience. Yet, permit faculty and staff who took the time, money, trouble, effort and go through background checks and training to obtain a CHL to be armed? ....... nah.
If they are going to be locking armed robbers in buildings with Students, I'd recommend police taking the Hostage Negotiation Seminar at Texas State University in January.

(San Antonio College installed electronic locks so they can INSTANTLY lock students and armed people in a building .... so no one escapes ....)
(YET, the armed robber escaped, with 25 police looking for him, but it could come in handy for a bad guy wanting students/targets to not get away.)
Makes one wonder WHAT WERE THEY THINKING? sometimes. I mean could be useful used properly, but no alerts sent out until later, just lock the doors .... that's apparently what occurred.

It isn't just local, Virginia Tech, California, all over has had lots of robberies lately
Here's "safety tips" from Milwaukee

Actually good tips with which I agree ....
Totally good advice there, absolutely correct.
The larger the group you are in, the safer you are probably.
Two "bathroom buddies" (buddy system at San Antonio College) got robbed in a bathroom, but had there been 7 or 8 in the group going to the bathroom together, they'd probably have been safer.

Re: links to college news and SAC robbery-AGAIN
Sad to see this is happening again. Back in 1999, I was a night student there at San Antonio college. During that time they had multiple rapes on campus. At that it's time I was a paralegal candidate and had a wonderful professor with a wonderful understanding attitude. Many of the young girls were scared to go to we're scared to walk to their cars at night. The professor high we shall remain nameless 'cause he still on staff, decided to say things in our hands. I checked the statur of limitations has expired. He knew I taught self defense classes as a civilian and also was a excellent pistol shot. When classes were over in our class, anyway, I was assigned the task of ensuring the ladies back to their car safely and on the road. While the young attractive ones as the professor if he was worried if I would be attacked. And he any stated that unless they came after them with an M1 Abrams tank they are in no danger if someone attacked them when I was with them. It was later established it was the security officers, not all of them, were doing the crimes. There is absolutely no parking around San Antonio college and the college is not well lit and was even less well it at that time. Yes, I did what I did I do what I did to ensure the safety of others as well as myself. At the time I had no less than three items on me to provide security. I'm not bragging I'm simply saying that people will do what they have to do to protect them selves. Thankfully, there were no incidents and everyone went home safe and finished the semester without any problems.
