After being unhappy with "stickons," recommended here on this forum, some years ago I visited an optometrist no longer with us in hopes of getting what your husband needs. As I explained my desire he was quite amenable to making me two pair -- one with the whole right-hand lens focused on the front sight of my competition handgun, and the other, as in Jim's case, with the center of the trifocals focused on the front sight of "a different handgun" (my primary carry weapon), considerably shorter than the former. I mentioned I would come back with the distance for each, and he said to me, "Just bring them in with you." Rather surprised, I told him I would, and mentioned that I had a CHL, in case he might be somewhat uneasy about this. His response, "I thought so. So do I."

I live in Alvin (south of Houston) so I can't recommend anyone. What I can recommend is quadrifocals if he is wearing trifocal now. They are regular trifocals with another section at the top that has the same power as the mid range. I can put my head down slightly when shooting (which I do anyway) and I can see throught the upper section. That lets me see my front sight very clearly. I eye doctor is so accomodating that I was able to take my pistol with me to confirm distance from my eye to the front sight. The only thing I have to work on is head position when shooting around baracades so that I can see through that upper section (it does not go all the way accross the top of the lenses.

To get quadrafocal in safety glasses, they do have to be glass, not plastic (at least where I get mine.

What a timely question. I wear contacts, and have had my eye doctor prescribe me what he calls monovision. Basically, my left eye is ranged for distance and my right eye for close in. Works great for shooting handguns. My AR rifles, I can JUST see the front sight.

Well, the other day I bought a Mosin Nagant 91/30. That front sight is sooooo far out there that I can not focus on it at all.

Frustrating, isn't it? I have the same problem with my Swedish Mauser M/96. In my shooting bag I now have 4 pair of eyeglasses, plus the pair I am wearing, and it just gets worse every year as I get older.

Yeah, it certainly does. I may have to get a pair or reading glasses just for shooting the MN.

At this point, it sounds like you just need to mount a camera on the gun and get glasses that can project an overlay with crosshairs on the inside of the lens

I just recently had Lasik surgery to correct my blurry-opia (one week, 3 days) I was rated at 20/2400, and now am able to read at 20/15.
I can't wait to get to the range and try out mah new eyes, as I am curious how it will affect my aim, you know, actually being able to see what I am aiming at. Not to mention not having to peer through the scratches in the lenses of my glasses should help some, too!

They can perform MonoVision Lasik as well, for those interested in that.
