Just curious, does anyone here have a NSA CHL?

I'm just curious if anyone does and why? Even if you carry a revolver 99% of the time, when taking the test, why not get the SA version of the license?

I'll be the first to admit to having a NSA CHL. I only own/carry revolvers, and I don't anticipate ever buying a SA pistol (for reasons of aesthetics, economics, perceived reliability/safety, and perceived need).

A little off topic, but how did that get into the law in the first place, the SA/NSA part? Do other states have this distinction on their licenses too?

When I got my Utah CFP, they had the same distinction. My instructor requried us to pass a basic proficiency and two guys who only brought revolvers ended up with restricted CFP's.

Speaking of qualifying oddities, why no .22LR, .22WMR, .32ACP semi-automatics allowed? Concealed carry means not everyone will want to have their britches pulled down with a 1911 hehe. Some folks just don't feel that anything more than a 16 oz. pistol is a carry weapon. I know there are combat advantages to a .45 but most ladies really like smaller caliber arms.

You can carry what you want. The minimum caliber is only for the test.

I taught the first 2 years. Flunked a lady who could not rack the slide of a SA. She loaded five, inserted the mag and could not rack it. Her hub had insisted she shoot a SA. I told her to get a revolver.

I find revolvers more complicated with the external hammer, half-cocked, cock and lock, and everything else to remember. I find it slightly amusing that they're considered so much easier that a SA license covers it, but an NSA license won't cover the super easy insert magazine, pull trigger of the SAs.

I don't think it's the load and fire part, but the fire and no boom part.

Revolver? Pull the trigger again (DA assumed).
Semi? Er, let's see failure to fire, failure to load, failure to eject? Was that slap, rack, fire? Rack, fire, slap? Eye poke, head slap, nose grab?

With practice you can do FTF drills quickly.

I would think this would make up most of the 2%. Not everyone has the desire or extra income to go out and buy a "carry gun" outside of what they have already. And if you prefer revolvers and never have an interesting in SA why bother renting or borrowing to qualify with something you never plan on carrying?

Depends on the pistol. About a year and a half ago I did serious damage to my left hand which resulted in my losing about 40% of my dexterity and 50-60% of my muscle/grip strength. Id dare say that its probably about the strength of an average woman. I can rack the slide on full size non striker fired weapons (such as my P-89) all day long. It wasnt untill very recently that I could operate the slide on a striker fired compact. I wasnt there so I dont know what SA she was trying to charge or what she shot with her husband. Im just saying that it might be she could 100% carry a SA, shes just got to be selective on which one.
