CCR ceraplate slide refinishing

Post by Skydivesnake »

Hi folks, thought I'd post these pics of my newly refinished P99 slide and one magazine. Done at CCR with their ceraplate process, total cost $99 for slide+mag, included return postage. The slide had alot of holster wear and looked pretty shabby, so I thought I'd give it a pre-Christmas treat :-)

The slide color is very similar to stainless, marginally duller, with a very slight - almost imperceptable - goldish hue. The brushed texture is actually the underlying surface texture of the slide itself. The finish feels slightly lower 'drag' than before, although not 'slippery'. It looks great and there is not a single defect on the plating whatsoever - they did an excellent job with the surface prep and plating, and even replaced the red paint under the end of the extractor that serves as the loaded chamber indicator.

Timeline was;
- reserved position in line and paid $25 deposit 10/13,
- received email that I was near the front of said line 11/13, and mailed the slide+mag to them the following day,
- CCR billed the remaining payment 11/19
- Received slide+mag back in mail 12/2

All in all, pretty quick turn around time if you consider there is a couple of days of shipping time both ways in there. I called them and got my name in line rather than just send it in and have it join the back of the line since I didn't want to carry my NIB 'spare' P99 for too long :-)

So all in all - very pleased; very nicely done, quick turnaround and a good price - will use them again.

Will post some more pics after a few months of carry to see how the finish holds up...

Cheers - SDS

But seriously, good looking finish. I've seen nothing but great results from CCR.

What type of finish is that? Is it similar to a Duracoat or a baked-on coating?

It's an electroless nickel with boron nitride; a true plating as opposed to a cured coating. I believe it is similar to the Robar NP3 process, except that one has teflon suspended within the plating rather than boron nitride.

Very interesting and a quality looking job. :patriot:

I've had a few hard chromed P99 slides before - this ceraplating looks interesting. I've heard it's not as slippery as NP3.

I may have to give it a try 1 day :)
