small (secondary) safes - recommendations?

Post by flechero »

Unfortunately my full size gun safe did not fit in the new house. So it's now out in the shop (100+ yds away). I need a small safe for my house and carry weapons. I also have a toddler now so this needs to be a quick access safe. I don't know what my options are, so I'm open to anything that makes sense. Size wise, I'd like it to hold 2-4 handguns.

Or if the cost isn't outrageous, a single quick access for the nightstand and something larger and slower for the closet or wall mounted is fine...any suggestions or advice on this welcomed.

Thanks!

Stay away from the Winchester eVault...mine broke within 6 months. Many similar stories on the forums. There's a little strand of wire on a motor that actuates the locking mechanism...after so many cycles, the wire breaks, and you end up having to use the key to open and close it.

I wonder if the GunVault is any better?

Academy has their gunvaults on sale for 69 if i remember correctly. I myself just bought the stack on they had on sale for 49.99 and like it a lot, its fast to unlock. Only down fall is that its not a lighted key pad which I would have preferred but for the price I wont complain.

For a small fast-access safe, I recommend the BioBox.

I have one and it reliably opens in one second, using your fingerprint as a key. It's not a high-security safe, but it will keep out a child.

I bought mine much cheaper off of eBay from seller "centerofmasscom" and had zero issues. Beware of look-alike devices.

I have had the basic GunVault for over 4 years and have nothing but good things to say about it. It has never malfunctioned and is very quick to access.

I've had a Gunvault for a decade, no problems, however it gets much less use now as my daughters are all grown up ( I just keep my handgun on my nightstand at night and with me in the day ). Over that decade I opened it probably an average of once a week, and never had a problem. It even has a motion detector setting that causes it to alarm if moved. Not sure how much they cost now but I always have thought highly of it.

I recently bought one of these:

on sale for $153. I have been pleased. It is a good size (I have 4 pistols in it), it opens in about 1.5 seconds, and seems fairly reliable. It is not the heaviest gauge safe, but for my needs, it is great.
