Picture this (lol) Hide a Gun

Post by RPB »

I don't have one (yet), so this isn't a review nor endorsement, but I ran across it today; found it interesting, though it depends on your situation (tall kids in house etc) whether it's good or not for you.
Long ones for rifles, small for pistols ... etc ...Lots of photos to scroll through. I have no affiliation with the company; know nothing other than what's on the website, and at a Texas Fishing Forum and Texas Hunting Forum; I just found it interesting, so I'm sharing.
Made in Texas. Of course.

An interesting idea, but as a covert weapons cache this would be uncovered fairly easily. The CIA reportedly has a piece of furniture inside its museum located inside its Langley headquarters which was setup by a Soviet agent. It supposedly has four hiding places of which they have only ever found three even though they have had access to this item for years. Now that's covert.

yeah, safes are surely more secure, and most guns should be in a safe.

I wouldn't "replace" a safe with one, but might "supplement" a safe with one or two.

For a home defense, handy by the front door/bed this isn't a bad idea ...

IMHO it beats a night stand where a burglar would look while I'm asleep and I'd have a rude awakening.

When you wake up to a burglar, how fast can you get to your safe?

I think the intended purpose is different than a safe.

My across the street neighbors sleep with their front door wide open usually ... I hear their dogs if anyone comes in the area between their house and mine, but they have closed it the last night or so (24 degrees)

Still, I've read of it occurring where someone awoke to their gun in hands of a burglar. I think by one of the ladies here.

Also, say one of these in a hallway, after your spare mag is empty from answering the 5 home invaders at the front door, and you make your way to the hallway to encounter the two rear/garage door/window zombies.

They aren't meant to be safes; just handy but not obvious.

I'd keep my expensive guns locked up, and any for defense ... handy, but concealed. So a bad guy wonders why I run towards paintings ... he won't react as fast as if he saw me run towards a gun.

"Here Mr. bad guy, I'll give you everything that's in my hidden wall safe, step to the left side of the picture please so I can open it for you; I think it swings this way .... oops, nope, this way other side opens.
I think I have some GOLD (dots) in here".... (bang through the picture and he'd never see a gun maybe)

I mean, I see situations it could be handy. Criminals often aren't the brightest.

I mean sure, have a bank account, but don't you keep a little mad money cash handy too? You don't keep it ALL in the bank vault.

Exactly... Twitter has to be the biggest boon to burglars since lock picks were invented.

All guns have at least two safeties. One's digital, one's cognitive. In other words - keep the digit off the trigger until ready to fire, and THINK. Some guns also have mechanical safeties on top of those. But if the first two don't work, the mechanical ones aren't guaranteed. - me

I would think the already mentioned wall-safe is why you wouldn't want this. You don't think thieves look behind every painting and picture?

haha. I hear ya, but you'd be surprised who has wall-safes. Not just the rich, and thieves, the pros at least, will by default rip all pictures off the wall to look behind them. It adds nothing to their time in your home, but can uncover a goody.

Kids doing a 'smash & grab' type theft probably wouldn't though, but still, this setup would make me nervous. I like the idea of extra magazines in there though. :)

True, they'll also need to check all the clocks

and ...
in addition to closets, drawers, kitchen cabinets, under couches, between mattresses, in night stands ....
and ...

I'm not talking about the obvious guns in a safe, I just like to have a spare handy if the one I wear around the house goes empty.... but not so obvious a visiting kid finds it when the jackball rolls under the couch/makes a bed ... pokes around in a night stand, opens a closet ...etc
