Hard Eight Signage

Post by Griffen »

I was having lunch the other day with a friend at the Hard Eight BBQ in Coppell. As we entered, I noticed no restrictive signs anywhere, so I carried in as usual.

It wasn't until we were getting ready to leave when I noticed the "It is unlawful to possess an unlicensed handgun..." sign. In addition, there was a spanish version of the same sign just beneath it. The letters were at least 1", and the sign was black and white. The odd thing is that the signs were placed next to the exit door of the restaraunt. I found it peculiar that the restrictive sign was not placed in an area at or near the entrance to the facility. :confused5 (If you've been there, you know you walk past all the smoking ovens first) The place also has a very rustic western motif, and probably caters to a lot of gunners.

As an aside, the place does have superb BBQ!! If you are looking for an excellent meal, and is gun friendly (I assume from the verbiage and placement of the sign) then a trip to Coppell is worth your drive.

You're licensed aren't you? Then you're fine...

Griffen, I understand your point, and I agree; their position makes the signs completely useless. Makes you wonder why they put the signs up at all! :headscratch

They put up those signs because they are required to do so by the TABC. All the signs mean to you is that they have a liquor license, but not a 51% license. So, they are not off limits to CHL holders, as they are a restaraunt that serves liquor, but not a bar.

Oh, and I absolutely agreee. Best barbeque around! My office, which I go to about once a month, is just right across the street from there. Only problem with the place is the way they serve. It's REAL easy to walk past those smokers and say "I want one of those, and a couple of those, and oh yeah, a few of those brush poppers" (got to try the brush poppers!) And then you end up with a $$$$ bill. But, it's all good!

Exact same thing with Coopers in Llano. They always say "What else?" when you are ordering...makes me think I didn't order enough. Before I know it, I've got a $29 bill for a meal that I can't finish! lol

The whole "What else?" thing, whether in restaurants or stores, is something that I find mildly annoying. It almost makes me want to reply "Now that you mention it, I've already ordered/picked up too much. Let's just forget about it and I'll go somewhere where they're at least polite while they try to manipulate me into over-buying."

Yep, but ya can ask for a piece of that white paper and wrap it up and have another meal or two off of it. Hard Eight in Stephnville is good, a little on the pricey side, but good. Cooper's is great, just gotta be sure you get there before he runs out. When he's out of meat it's closing time.

It's a TABC sign for people who are not licensed to carry a pistol (have a CHL). If you have your CHL the sign does not apply to you at all.

As for the upsale aspect well that's just good business sense. If you want to go off on a rant and alienate people who are just doing their job then I guess you could get all in a huff about it. Their job is to sell the customer BBQ so why would they not want to sell you more? It's no different then them saying "Is there anything else you need?" I used to ask people if they needed anything else, etc when I sold oilfield supplies. In my opinion it's just good business practice. If you don't want more you can always just say "No thanks" or "Nah that's enough for me, thanks."

ANYhow that's off topic but I just fealt like throwing my two cents in. :tiphat:

Oh and Coopers in Llano is my happy place.
My posts on this website are worth every cent you paid me for them.

I disagree. "Will there be anything else, Sir?" is both polite and an open question. "What else?" is both curt and a closed question. My ire is not aimed at the poor fellow being forced to use the latter form, but at the creeps in corporate headquarters who made the decision to instruct staff to be impolite and insult the customers' intelligence on the basis of a bit of pop-psychology.

Back on topic, I do agree with you as to the sign. :tiphat:

There also is a conspicuous sign as you walk thru the entry way that cautions patrons that its easier to order more food than you can eat. Something about eyes bigger than your stomach. So there is a precautionary warning up front. Nice dilemma to have... "Shall I eat this last rib or not?".....
