Bullet Question

I am just wondering what the difference is and the purpose of a FMJ flat nose bullet and a FMJ ball bullet? Also, is the flat nose just as reliable in chambering as the ball, especially in a Glock? I bought a couple boxes of Lawman .40 FMJFN ammo a few weeks ago to try in my G27 but have not been to the range yet to try them out.

The flat nose FMJ was designed to give better stopping power in FMJ ammo. When the USAF went to the 9mm they specified FNFMJ ammo for the Air Police to use. The functioning of the ammo is not affected by the flat nose in most handguns. Interestingly, the FNNMJ is a little more accurate than the RNFMJ.

edit: I just noticed your ? was about .40 S&W. I have never seen a FMJ for .40 S&W that wasn't a flat nose. I think this is to shorten the OAL of the .40 round and replicate the profile of JHP ammo.
