Custom Earplugs
I was in Academy yesterday wandering around the gun section and saw a "custom earplug kit" for $14. I figured I'd give it a try.
It's a 2 part puddy that cures when mixed. I molded them last night. Very easy. I haven't been to the range but I'm wondering if anyone else has tried this. I searched for other threads and I see that some members have had custom earplugs made at their local range, but i haven't seen anything posted on the DIY kits. They're made by Radiens and state an NRR of 26db.
Anybody?

Re: Custom Earplugs
I had a custom fit earpiece made at an audiologist for my radio when I'm working. I've also had in ear monitors fitted for when I was playing guitar the woodlands (mostly church). Not sure how the kid molds to your ear, but a good set of custom molded ear pieces is amazing.
If for the price, they work well seems to be a good deal.

Re: Custom Earplugs
I tried two of those kits a couple of years ago. One from Walmart and one from Cabelas and neither worked well. This past year my buddy and I became providers for actual custom made hearing protection thru E.A.R., Inc. and after going through their training and making custom hearing protection for a few months I can see why I was unhappy with the $14 kits.
If these work for you that will be great. If not, give us a shout.
Thanks,
George

Last two gun shows I went to I was looking for a vendor that did the pour and fit on the spot and was not able to find anyone. I ended up going to Academy and buying some Howard Leight electronic ear protection and LOVE it.

I found him at the Fort Worth Gun Show, but can't find anything on a Google search. Try sending him a PM here, and he should get back to you.i8godzilla wrote:+1RAM4171 wrote:Contact info? Re: Custom Earplugs
I took my $14 custom earplugs to the Garland range today. They performed about like $0.14 foamies.
They block out the sound adequately but they don't knock out the pressure on your eardrum when someone in the neighboring lane is firing a large caliber. I had to go back to muffs, and the nuisance they become when shooting a rifle (they rub on the stock).
For those that have "real" custom earplugs, do they knock out the pressure caused from large calibers in close proximity? I'd really like to get rid of the shooting muffs.
Thanks.

I looked at the E.A.R site, but am confused on which is the best for shooting sports. Which ones do you use?
