Taurus PT140 thoughts. . .

Post by Fallsraider »

for sake of full disclosure I bought the MilPro PT140 .40 cal and have put 200 rounds though it without much of a hitch, just a couple light primer hits on some practice ammo. . . shot a mag of the Hornady CD 165 grains though it with no problems.
I am really enjoying this pistol. Easy to conceal, (supertuck) and fun & accurate to shoot.
I have read some really bad reviews of this little .40 and I am happy to say I am not experiencing any of them. Thought it was a great price and a lifetime warranty. . .
I'd sure like to hear how it's performing for anybody else out there who owns one?

Well, mine was the PT145...almost the same gun.

It was the first carry gun I had and I shot it a lot at the range(maybe about 1000 rounds or so).
Never a malfunction. I'd still have it today if I didn't use it to trade for another gun.

Not quite the same, but as before, my lovely wife carries a pt145 Generation 3, and loves it. Started with a Generation 2 pt745 and had some light primer strikes, mis-feeds and magazine drop issues, all has been cleared by the step up to the Generation 3.
We were quite disappointed when recently found the drop safety issues with the pt's, one post on this board, but was quite relieved when I found this link http://www.taurususa.com/find-model.cfm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and did a careful safety function check to determine if her's was one that had the problem with the trigger block. From what I have found on the net and with her pistol, Taurus has redesigned the trigger mech on the Gen 3s to eliminate earlier issues. plug your serial number into the site above and good luck with what we have found to be a wonderful pistol. I'm getting one as a BUG for my XDm .45. (actually maybe 2)

LOVE my PT140. Taurus has come a long way since my very old PT111 from years ago. Very accurate and I've had no FTF in 1,000 rounds. Pretty much everything has improved on them and IMO it's the best gun (in my low price range) period(s)...

I have a PT140, other that the mag catch broke on the very first clip, it has been a good gun. I now carry and prefer a Glock 30 because if fills my hand better, and has less felt recoil, but I had 1,500 rds. through that PT140 before I put it in the safe.

my first carry weapon was the PT111 (9mm version of the PT140).
I put probably 800-1000 rounds through it, and only stopped carrying because my wife picked up a Springfield XD9sc, and I found the grip to be just slightly better, and the sights were much better, so I put the PT111 in the safe and bought myself an XD9sc also.
The sights on my PT111 were 1 dot rear and 1 dot front, so you had to put the front sight on top of the rear sight, and I just couldn't get my targeting any better, as it just wasn't "normal" to me.

The heinie sights, or "straight eight" as some call them were the only thing I didn't like about my 145.
I'm a three dot kinda guy too. ;-)

I have a PT11, PT140 and a PT145. The PT140 I carry IWB (Cross Breed Supertuck) and the PT145 I carry with A Better Holster t-_______. The PT111 I purchased for my wife to use as her primary carry but she normally doesn't since most of the time she is either with me or at work, where she can't carry. I have about 300 rounds thru each gun now without any problems at all.

thanks guys, I just started noticing some of the "bad press" and didn't really understand them because I wasn't having any trouble and really like this gun. . .size is great with the extended mag. I don't really ever forget that I'm carrying it but it sure isn't a problem.
I'll have my first experience with having to lock it up in the safe in the truck tomorrow when I spend the day visiting at UT Southwestern Hospital in Dallas tomorrow. . . been there a couple times and never saw 30.06 signs. . . maybe they aren't posted?

You should enjoy your PT140.

My PT-111 (9MM) has about 2,700 rounds through it and
I didn't even clean it until about 2,360 rounds. No issues
of any kind - and mine is a Generation 1 model. Newer
models are improved.

The other day I was at the Bass Pro/Grapevine range and
spoke with the shooter in the next lane. He used a PT-111
9MM for years, put 3,000 rounds through his, and also had
no issues.

He just moved to a PT-140. It works fine. He's a LEO,
so I'm guessing this is either his on duty BUG, or at least he
feels confident enough to make this his carry piece when off
duty.

Have a PT140 like the way it shoots, like the Heine sights. Dislikes I have issues with mag drops happened first time after about 200 rounds, one call and Taurus mailed me a new spring good to go for another couple of hundred rounds and it started dropping again. Just haven't taken the time to call Taurus and get an RA to ship it back to get it looked at.

I have been carrying either my CW40 or SP101. Seriously considering going to all stainless on my carry guns. The Mac release button stared some light rusting in the serrations this past summer that's another part I need to replace when I get ready to send her to Taurus. I really like the Kahrs and intend to see about swapping the CW and some cash for the K40.
