Churchill (Gunmaker) Shotgun

My boss is a Brit, but I won't hold it against him, since he did get his US citizenship.

He has an antique Churchill double barrel (side by side) shotgun, which he brought over from England.

I had a look at it today, and as I am not knowledgeable too much on firearms, I thought I would post the question here.
At best, i would say it is in very good condition, but again, I don't know a whole lot about it. But it looked good, not marred up, kept nice in a good wooden (original Churchill) box that has felt or velvet lining.

I do not think he is wanting to sell it, but curiosity has him about the value.

I will try to get him to take good pictures of it, but on my cell, it just didn't come out well.

He said it is definitely an E.J. Churchill, 12 gauge, Field XXV, Number 2 of a pair, serial # 3638 (if that helps)

If you ever get down to South Houston, let me know. I will get my boss to bring it out to PSC and let you get a better look at it, and a bit of shooting, should you want to do that.
As far as its pair, great question, to which i will ask. My guess is that it is still in his family, either with his father in Spain or one of his brothers, but again, just a guess.

Will fetch at least $10k in Auction. Collectors love British made shotguns and this one pictured above is a nicely kept shotgun with nicely done engravings. Just hope the the barrel is not pitted with surface rust.

I am new to this forum but I know a little about the E.J. Churchill Shotguns. Edwin John Churchill was basically known as an expert and knowledgeable pigeon shooter as well as a gunmaker. He was know for, and these were his favorites, the 25" barrels with a raised narrow file cut rib. These were known as the Churchill rib. Rather than bore you with his history you could read a book entitled Game Shooting written by Churchill/Hastings. As was noted earlier, those who have actually shot the double barrell or side by side, whichever you wish to use, have had a great experience and understand the reason Churchill loved this firearm so much. Fortunately it has been one of my favorite firearms in many models and guages.

These are fine weapons and very easy on the eyes and in the field. Now all you need is a great dog!
