Are Refurb Units good as new???

I got an email from a guy local that sells and he`s got a hit on Sigs P226 & P229
I already have a P229 and love it , thinking about another and this is real tempting....
I just want to make sure that a refurb unit is as good as new.If i go ahead and buy. Never bought one that way before.
So any feedback would be great.

Sig Sauer has some P226 & P229 pistols that have been totally refurbished inside and out by the factory. My rep tells me that they look like new when shipped, but you can really save $ on them. Maybe you have wanted a sig for a long time but thought they were too expensive. Go for it....they do carry a warranty on the CPO models. I own a CPO p229 and its a great pistola.

If it was done by Sig, it looks like you're GTG for at least a year. I wonder if they have a database where you can find out if the refurbishment was done by them or not.

I bought a refurbished Sig 239 from Carter Country a few years ago. I am very happy with it. Looking at it I could not tell that it was not new. The gun came in a SigArms red plastic case and had a tag on the gun stating that it was refurbished by the factory. See image below:

I know Sig had some problems with their CPOs a couple of yrs ago. I don't know if they fixed the issues in house

Sig states refurb amounts to this: Each pistol is stripped, refitted with original factory parts - "WHERE NEEDED" - cleaned, lubricated, function tested and hand-inspected by a SIG SAUER factory technician (thanks Pawpaw for the link)

Well, whoop de doo. From what I read, most likely what you're getting is a used pistol. Not refurbished. Sure, they inspect, clean and function test.

To me, when I read refurbished, I think, re-newed/re-worked parts, or even replaced with new parts. Not simply, used, but inspected.

My guess is that unless there's very significant wear or abuse you aren't getting a new barrel or any other part replaced or factory re-worked. You're getting a plain used pistol. Now, that's not a bad thing, but unless cost savings is significant, you'd be better off buying new.

Quite often, I've seen the asking price for a used firearm quite close to the cost of new. Unless there's some overriding reason (like a collector's passion for some model he just can't find elsewhere...) I see no good reason to buy used unless there's significant savings over new.

I've heard nothing but good things about the SIG CPO pistols. Since you save several hundred dollars over a new pistol ($500-600 vs. $800-900) I'd definitely go with the CPO if available.

I was waiting on an email from him again I aske about warranty and this is what I got...

"You get the regular warranty (full year) from Sig for any reason. Just like a new one"

So I may just be picking up one in next couple of days.
