OWB First Time

Found a picture of my Galco that I use.
Notice the height and cant that it has, not to mention it pulls the gun in very close to the body.

the Galco (I assume is the black one), looks very similar to the DeSantis, but the Galco does look to have a bigger forward cant, and does look like the holster covers more of the trigger guard and slide than the DeSantis.

I think I will see if The Arms Room has a Galco for my XD9sc, and see if I can exchange the DeSantis.

the one thing I don't think I like (about either) is how to thread the holster. unless there is a trick to it, the holster does not like to move once you have it threaded, so (for me anyway) you have to undo your belt, move it the 1 inch or whatever, then put the belt back on.

Yes, the one on top..it was the only pic I had.

Threading is difficult at first, but once the leather breaks in and relaxes a little, it's slightly
easier to slide the holster along the belt to fine tune the position.

FYI...Also, when the holster was new it was very tight around the gun.
It took a while to get it to the point where I could draw smoothly.

I have the Crossbreed supertuck Deluxe which I wear at 3...easy to conceal with the way I normally dress. I also have the Fobus paddle holster OWB. The Fobus is more "adjustable" getting into cars (shifting from 3 to 2).

Crossbreed is easily carried at 3 but the Fobus needs to be shifted to 2 because it prints a bit more.

If I was at the range doing draw and shoot drills, the Fobus would be my preffered holster because the gun would fall into my hand better than the Crossbreed (the Fobus tilts the gun away from the body a bit). To carry everyday, the Crossbreed is MUCH more comfortable and more easily hidden.

Is it normal to have 6 holsters for the same gun????

The Galco that USA 1 posted the pic of is the same one I use now. It seems to be the flattest most concealable of all the OWB holsters I have and I only carry OWB.

I usually carry around the 3oclock area. I try to put it to where when my arms are hanging down, my elbow and forearm covers the butt of the firearm. I also wear those dry fit shirts like the UA ones you wear. Unfortunately, i too have to wear a size larger with those particular shirts since they are designed to hug the body a little bit more than the typical tshirt. Also, have you tried carrying around the 2:30 position?

If you settled on a holster for your first carry gun without going through at least 6, you:

1. Are an extraordinarily talented and diligent researcher, or
2. Had a good friend you trusted who was also an extraordinarily talented and diligent researcher (like the folks on this Forum), or
3. Compromised too soon, figuring this last holster is as good as it gets, or
4. Ran out of money without being satisfied and still have a shopping list of holsters to try

Personally, I dislike IWB, so I'm intrigued by the OWB discussion here. I also dislike waiting months/years for a holster. So, can anyone recommend an "off the shelf" OWB holster for 3" 1911 with a good cant to carry at 3:30 or so? Thanks.

High noon holsters, mitch rosen express line, galco, and desantis are the first ones to come to my mind.

Pawpaw thanks. Does the slide and barrel stick out the bottom with a 3" 1911. In the photo it does, and I would be concerned about it readily being identified as a gun if your shirt rode up just a bit.

The Fist holsters are top quality, very well made, and usually delivered in a couple of weeks. My favorite is the K2 Kydex High Ride, but the company makes lots of other OWB versions. Their leather holsters can be seen here.

Dillon Precision makes some fine holsters as well and ships quickly from stock.

I was just looking at these again yesterday and they were all in stock. I am looking at getting the concealable belt holster since it holds the gun slightly different. If you go with any of these Galco products you will NOT be disappointed. The one I have now is GREAT but if I can get something that is slightly better, why not?

This holster has a bit more forward cant and it is also made to hold the gun differently so that it rides closer to the body for easier and better concealment.
