SHOT Show Announcements: Taurus Carbine

So...Taurus decides to create a carbine for 9mm, .40S&W, and .45 ACP. Then they make it (apparently) unmodifiable, heavy (11-12.4lbs!), and ugly.

Who asked for something like this? Taurus needs to stop doing market surveys on Californian skate-park teenagers.

Why carry a 12lb. firearm chambered in a pistol cartridge when you can carry a full battle rifle for that weight penalty? There must be an error in the weight and if accurate this will go down as a terrible idea.

Even a GARAND weighs less than 12 pounds!

Update: I see another report that says 9 pounds, so maybe it only weighs as much as a FN FAL.

Looks like that was a typo. The linky now says its 8.25 to 9 lbs depending on caliber.

It may be uglier than the Hi-Point. I'll stick to my Sub 2K. (although its pretty ugly, too)

i just saw a 45acp carbine at the Arms Room the other day that uses the Glock mags. Don't remember who made the carbine though. I don't think it was this one.

um.. Original Trilogy ofcourse.

I'll just stick with good ol' Marlin, though less effective on droids I'm sure.

RAther have a Hi-point.

Big and ugly, too long an dheavy. Should have a folding stock for a good truck gun. Should have glock mags for 9 or .40, should take regular 1911 mags for .45, don't invent new wheels when the old ones work just fine.

I just looked up one and the picture looks like the one I saw. They had gotten in 3 I think, first two sold right away and did not expect the 3rd one to last. Very nice and I did like it. They are a bit pricey, way more than a CX4 for sure.

A few years ago a company called Valkyrie Arms marketed a semiauto M3 submachinegun clone. You could get a normal-length barrel but no stock (and call it a pistol) or, if you wanted the wire stock, it came with a 16" barrel to make it not an SBR.

I wanted one because my favorite toy smg as a child was an M3 grease gun - stamped steel, just like the original. But it was expensive and I had not real "mission statement" for it, and had not yet come to the point where "because I want it" is good enough reason.

If enough people had wanted a light, simple, relatively high-capacity semi-auto .45 ACP carbine, I think Valkyrie would still be in business.

I regret not buying one but it would have limited utility and I would probably not shoot it much.

Still doing it. Either a a30 round stick or 50 round drum magazine. Bit pricey though.
