There was a short discussion Saturday about that fact that if you ever use your gun in an SD situation you will probably never see the gun again.

Anyone know of this actually happening in Texas?

I doubt any department in Texas would try that, and it it were found to be a good shoot and they were to refuse to return your gun you would have a good civil case against them under the 5th Amendment (deprivation of property without due process).

Getting it back in good condition is another question entirely, and I have heard some horror stories about the condition guns are in when they are returned to their owners--guns confiscated after Hurricane Katrina being the most egregious example.

I would put in a word for the Glock 30 SF even though you say you don't like how they feel. The Gen 4 Glock has the backstrap adjustments that make it feel somewhat different than previous Glocks, depending on what insert you use. Be sure and ask the shop to let you try it with one of the other backstraps to see how it feels. One big plus for the Glock is the 10 + 1 capacity and the ability to use Glock 21 magazines for reloads.

The M&P45c looks good and there are lots of folks who really like them. You probably wouldn't go wrong there either. Of course, you "only" get 8 + 1 rather than 11 in the Glock and reloads are still 8 rounds.

I have owned several XD's - a .45, a .40, and a 9mm. They functioned fine for me, but I really never came to like them as much as some other brands I owned. I eventually sold them all off. Good luck on your decision.

In the same style as your 1911 (great gun BTW!), you may want to look at something like a Rock Island Arsenal 1911. I saw some at the Winchester Gallery off 820 and Rosedale (? I think) for around $500 plus tax. That was you could use the same holsters you currently use.

Then they are overpriced. I see them at the gunshows new for $365-400.

I love all of my 1911s. The only other .45 I own is an HK45. Took it to Front Sight with me and beat the heck out of it with around 850 rounds and only swiped a bore snake through it each night. Worked great and pretty comfortable. It has the same grip angle and only barely wider than a 1911. My daily carry though is a Kimber Super Carry Ultra.

Ill put another vote in for the glock 30. I havent held or owned an XD so i cant comment on those models. Good luck with your search!

XD 45. The XD and Glock 30 are just about the same pistol. The XD is a little more narrow and that will help on concealment. I have both and thats what ive found. As far as reliable both have gone bang every single time. My XD is the stainless. Holds up very well also has the Night Sights again zero issues. Ive owned for 3 years and carry it often. Mine is a fulll size 13/14 rounds of 45.

OP: You have stated that you aren't quite ready to buy, but look at the
above thread's XD .45 for sale with 5, count 'em, 5 mags, + pix.

This would be an easy FTF purchase for you two since you're in East Dallas
County and the seller is in Plano.

FN has intrigued me for a while, but I've never handled one. The thought of 15+1 of .45 and full ambi controls for ~$600 is hard not to like, even for a steel frame guy like me.

The HK45 is also one I would look at since the grip is so nice (at least the P30's grip is, and they seem to be similar). I'd like to check out a CZ97 but it might be too big.

I am aware of a domestic homicide where the weapon (s) were eventually returned to the estate after judicial procedings were done.

Identifying markers had been added to the revelant parts prior to lab testing.

That said, its kinda doubtful that the estate of Oswald will ever receive his weapons.

I'm a little surprised that no one has mentioned the Beretta PX4 .45.

I have it and the M&P .45. They are both great shooters, and are as reliable as anything out there. DA/SA versus SA only.

I think the round count is down on the PX4 in .45acp compared to the Glock 21 or the M&P or the XD. If my memory serves me correctly it kept me from buying another CX4 chambered in 45. I could only get PX4 mags and they were expensive and low capacity comparatively.

Well I was headed home from Wally World this afternoon and just couldn't help but stop by the Gun Zone to look around . I had almost decided on the XD compact, and as I was looking through the cases a SIG P250 .45 caught my eye. I had the clerk get it out for me to handle and the grip angle was great, pointed really well for me, the trigger was light and smooth but with a long reset like a revolver but I could get used to that. What really supprised me was the $479 price tag, and it comes standard with NS. It is NIB, comes with only one 12rd mag. I just thought the price was awfully low for a Sig.

Does anyone have any experience with this new Sig? It was the 4" version. All comments are welcome past and future . I still have a couple of months till I have the $ together to purchase.

The HK45 is a tack driver as well. Very accurate. Another nice thing is you can carry it Condition 1 just like a 1911. It also has a decocker, depending on the variant.
