Re: 2011 Weight Loss Group
Based on my results so far this year one would think I misread the title of this thread to say "2011 Weight GAIN Group"!

Re: 2011 Weight Loss Group
Since I don't own a scale I can't measure my progress. I usually get weighed at the Doctors office every three months.
My next appointment is in a couple of weeks so I'll find out then....*fingers crossed*.

Re: 2011 Weight Loss Group
Dec 12: 255
Jan 31: 226
I just ran across this post, and yes, it is for me. While not a New Year's Resolution, I decided back in December that I needed to shed some pounds. We bought a Wii Fit Balance Board and check our progress everyday. Just knowing I lost a tenth of a pound is the positive feedback I need to keep going. Since Jan 1, I have reduced my weight from 248 to 226. My goal is to get below 190, however, as long as I am not gaining, I do not have a time-frame for getting there. (We'll see how it goes while on vacation in February.) No real diet, just healthier eating--less fat, more vegetables/salads, smaller portions, little to no sweets, and getting off my big butt more.
Good luck to all!

Re: 2011 Weight Loss Group
My goal for the New Year was not to by pants any larger.
I'll modify that goal to fit w/ holster back into my 38 waist pants . I'll keep current on this thread--
Current-- #38 pants mabye.... w/ holster-- owwieee, meaning no bending . #40 pants w/ holster are fine.

Re: 2011 Weight Loss Group
I should've played last year!
I can be here to encourage. . . and I need to maintain this year.
(I'm 6'5")
Jan, 2010: 346 lbs. / 46" waist (pants well below real waist)
Aug, 2010: 225 lbs. / 34" waist (true waist)
Jan, 2011: 221 lbs. / 34" waist
We kept it fairly simple. Working out and eating smaller portions of healthier foods, with a mind toward glycemic index and avoiding completely: white rice, white bread, potatoes, white noodles.
I had to teach myself to eat slowly (put the fork or sandwich down between bites) and eat healthy snacks (protein or complex carbs (carbs with fiber)).
Then I added 4-7 days / week of working out. I'd aim for a minimum of 30 mins of cardio each day (7 days/week) and weight lifting 4-5 days / week. I made sure to hit each major muscle group once a week:
Day 1: chest / triceps
Day 2: back / biceps
Day 3: legs
Day 4: shoulders
Day 5: core
I eased into the workouts and increased my weight slowly, so I never got the "welcome back to the gym" 2-week soreness. In fact, for the first couple of weeks, I just walked around my neighborhood briskly enough to get out of breath. Now, one year later, I can play 3-4 hours of full court basketball and still have my breath.
Just keep at it! Keep going in! Don't make up for yesterday, just do right from this point on. It's worth it.

Re: 2011 Weight Loss Group
If I were, hypothetically, trying to gain weight this year, should I start a new thread or is this one ok (supposing I was also trying to drop percent body fat.)

Re: 2011 Weight Loss Group
i've never really been concerned about my weight until recently, i'm 5'11" and have varied between 170 and 175 since high school. after starting a desk job 7 months ago i'm up to 190 and feel absolutely disgusted with myself for getting to this point so quickly. part of it is the fact that i'm sitting on my butt for at least 9 hours a day, but the biggest factor in the weight gain has been snacking while at work. instead of bringing fruit or healthy snacks, i've just been going to the vending machine and getting junk food. we have an elliptical at home and i use it at least 3 times a week, but after evaluating my calorie intake, i wasn't even burning enough calories in my workouts to make up for the extra calories i'd been taking in from eating snacks at work. i hope to be back down to the mid to low 170s by the end of April. weighed myself this morning before taking a shower at 189, so that's where my weight loss journey starts.
Re: 2011 Weight Loss Group
I can relate. I quit smoking and became desk bound 5 years ago. Gained 50 lbs in 3 months.rmr1923 wrote:i've never really been concerned about my weight until recently, i'm 5'11" and have varied between 170 and 175 since high school. after starting a desk job 7 months ago i'm up to 190 and feel absolutely disgusted with myself for getting to this point so quickly. part of it is the fact that i'm sitting on my butt for at least 9 hours a day, but the biggest factor in the weight gain has been snacking while at work. instead of bringing fruit or healthy snacks, i've just been going to the vending machine and getting junk food. we have an elliptical at home and i use it at least 3 times a week, but after evaluating my calorie intake, i wasn't even burning enough calories in my workouts to make up for the extra calories i'd been taking in from eating snacks at work. i hope to be back down to the mid to low 170s by the end of April. weighed myself this morning before taking a shower at 189, so that's where my weight loss journey starts.

Re: 2011 Weight Loss Group
In 2009, I dropped from 255 to 230 and maintained that for the year of 2010.
I am now 228 My goal by year end is 199
Incentive: I bought my first pair of size 36 jeans since a long time ago, and they fit!. In 2009 I was getting ready to move up to size 40 before losing weight. I want to buy size 34.
Diet: My plan is to eat smaller and/or fewer portions and do away with late night snacks.
Exercise: I work on treadmill, elliptical, stationary bike and l jog outdoors 3-4 x a week.
I signed up for a training program to prep for the Capitol 10K in Austin in March. I invite you all to join me.
Also do a light to medium workout with weights.
I also have a heavy bag to beat up on but haven't put too much into that yet,
The life change adjustment for food has been the toughest, I love to eat.
Good Luck to all.

i'd probably be right around there if i accepted the free donuts every morning too, i'm at least proud of myself for eating breakfast at home and leaving the donuts untouchedRPBrown wrote:I can relate. Re: 2011 Weight Loss Group
the wake-up call for me was when i realized i couldn't fit into half of my size 34 slacks and jeans anymore. i purchased my first pair of size 36 slacks last weekO6nop wrote: Incentive: I bought my first pair of size 36 jeans since a long time ago, and they fit!. good news is that when i get back to comfortably fitting into 34s, those size 36 slacks will be perfect for wearing a Crossbreed Supertuck

Re: 2011 Weight Loss Group
wow, not much activity in this thread lately. i had to dig back several pages to find it. with a promotion at work in january i haven't had as much time as i'd like to work out, but with diet changes alone i've managed to lose 5 pounds in the last 45 days or so. i was hoping for a bit more weight loss at this point but it's difficult when i'm sitting at a desk for over 50 hours a week
EDIT: after reading my original posts above, i've actually lost 7 pounds in the past 45 days with little to no exercise. and i'm proud to say that i'm comfortably fitting in my size 34 pants again and use the size 36s solely for use with an IWB holster
