Cleaning out closets
I was iced in today, so I decided to clean out a closet. How is it that I have ammo for guns I do not, and have never owned?
I have 20 guage shotgun shells, never owned one. 30.30....never owned one.
Anyways, I came across something that I found in my grandfathers house after he passed, and it is a bit of an oddball. I have a Magazine, and 4 rounds of 351 cal rifle rounds. The Mag is for a Winchester 1907 as far as I can tell. It looks OLD as do the rounds. If you have a Winchester 1907 and need a mag, I will mail it to you as I have no need for it.
I did find 200 rounds of 9mm that I did not know I had.

It happens. I have a box of .38 Special +P Hydra Shoks. Never owned a .38 or .357.SecedeTX wrote:How is it that I have ammo for guns I do not, and have never owned?
I think I was looking at J-frame snubbies at a time when defensive ammo of any kind was getting hard to come by (after the election of our current president). Found this box and bought it. Never did get the gun to go with it.

Re: Cleaning out closets
I did the same thing today, found a box of .40S&W ammo. Never had a .40S&W gun.

Glad I am not the only one! I have a ziplock freezer bag full of 20 guage 7 shot express loads, and for the life of me, I can't remember where I got them from. Maybe this could be justification to get a new shotgun?

Do you have a .38 Spl? Maybe you want to trade.cougartex wrote:I did the same thing today, found a box of .40S&W ammo. Never had a .40S&W gun.

(Kidding, sort of. If it was local, I'd trade someone, but shipping one box of ammo to get another box of ammo hardly seems worth the effort. I'll probably get that snubbie eventually.)
I also found about 1500 rounds of .22 LR.
I sold my CZ 452 Varmint .22 that I was using in that I was using in small-bore silhouette matches. My other .22 was cut down to fit me when I turned eight years old, so it's a little small for me now, lol. But I'll keep the ammo. I'll have another .22 some day and need it. It's not like it's going to go bad sitting in the cabinet.
I have a variety of 12 Ga shotgun shells, maybe a couple hundred rounds, ranging from 7 1/2 shot to 00 buck shot, both 2 3/4" and 3" Magnums.
I do not currently own a 12 Ga since I sold my Browning BPS. I'll get another one (or three) before long, so I'll keep those too.
I've moved a few times, so ammo is in random boxes here and there. Every time I open a box of "I wonder what's in here," I find at least one box of ammo I'd forgotten I had. (When I move, it gets pretty chaotic. I have boxes that contain clothes, stereo and/or computer equipment, dishes, ammo, compact discs, et cetera, all in the same box. And almost every box is like that. I think one of my projects for this weekend might be to get all the ammunition I can locate gathered up in one place so I can at least see what I have.)

I have an old magazine for a beretta 92. I can't remember how I got it, but I don't have a beretta. Hopefully I will correct that oversight one day and have a gun for the magazine.

I have tons of parts, ammo and accessories for guns I don't own...everything from Uzi's to 30-30's.

Re: Cleaning out closets
It starts slowly, with one person peeking into the break room and seeing the box of doughnuts. What good fortune to find this box of doughnuts with hours to go until lunch! Maybe he will tell the co-worker over the cubicle wall, and word will slowly spread. Other people in the office may start to notice that more people than usual are heading for the break room. Maybe they see the doughnuts gripped in their co-workers' hands. Perhaps they can just smell that heavenly combination of glaze and dough. But soon, it's an all-out sugar rush as office drones battle for that last doughnut. No time to be nice. We're talking about doughnuts here. It's a feeding frenzy...SecedeTX wrote:I was iced in today, so I decided to clean out a closet. How is it that I have ammo for guns I do not, and have never owned?

I think we may actually do the same with ammo. We see a good deal here or maybe there... we get excited that we actually have ammo at Wally World. Next thing we know, our heart skips a beat our eyes glaze over and we get into a buying frenzy! Pretty soon we clean out our closets and find ammo that we forgot we bought or we find ammo that we should not have bought (because we don't actually own that caliber....yet!). We had every intention of buying that gun... so we buy ammo for it first. Next thing we know... it's an (ammo) feeding frenzy!!!
I'm not sure what scientific name it is... ???

On another forum, there was a "You know you're a shooter when" thread.
One of the things mentioned was you have parts for guns you've never owned.

Re: Cleaning out closets
Similar, but not gun related: Sorry. I have car parts on the shelf in the garage for cars that we haven't owned in 30 years or more. You see, we have 3 boys, and at one time we had 6 old cars (no new ones). At least 4 of them would run at a given time. Maybe I should donate them somewhere, the parts, not the boys. What do you hoard?

My co-worker has a 351 rifle that was his Grandfathers. He has been looking for ammo for it, not to shoot, but to "comeplete" the rifle. If you wanna get rid of that mag and four rounds I know he would be very great full.SecedeTX wrote:I was iced in today, so I decided to clean out a closet. 1. Once a certain critical mass is achieved, gun accessories breed.
2. The presence of ammunition for which you have no firearm is not an indication of excess ammunition, but rather an indication of an open slot in your arms accumulation.
