AR Gunsmith needed...
...I have purchased a new AR-15 that is not threaded for a flash hider. Can anyone recommend a Texas gunsmith versed in threading AR barrels? Thanks in advance.

I don't know what a gunsmith might charge for that, but threaded barrels don't cost that much. Have you considered that as an alternative.

Ooops, I am in west Texas near Terlingua. As to getting another barrel. It's a brand new Colt Match Target sans flash hider, so I want to get the current barrel threaded.
Re: AR Gunsmith needed...
I would think a good local machine shop could thread a barrel. Just a thought.

It's impossible to use machine shop and Terlingua in the same sentence, if you know what I mean...eureka40 wrote:I would think a good local machine shop could thread a barrel. Just a thought.

Virgil Tripp is in Alpine. He's one of the best gunsmiths in the history of ever.

But I'm not sure if he's doing anything other than magazines now. Wouldn't hurt to give him a call or email.
Not in Texas, but Firebird Precision is in New Mexico. Jim specializes in ARs.

Does a lot of competition guns. Highly recommended. I've shot an AR that he built.
Another fantastic gunsmith is Benny Hill at Triangle Shooting Sports in Corpus Christi.

They could if they really knew, or you really knew how to tell them, what was needed.eureka40 wrote:I would think a good local machine shop could thread a barrel. Just a thought.
Lots (most?) rifle barrels have a bore that is not exactly in the center. The threads need to be centered on the bore and not necessarily on the outside of the barrel.

Briley.com is located in Houston, TX. They manufacture match grade barrels and do all sorts of mods there as well. I know thay usually have quite a bit of a wai/lead time for work but are top notch from what I hear. FYI if you remove the upper you can ship just that and not require any FFL transfer or inflated shipping costs. Good luck.

Wouldnt need and FFL anyway. They do only need the upper or barrel though.RECIT wrote:Briley.com is located in Houston, TX. Sorry, I thought you implied he would need a FFL for the lower if he shipped it.RECIT wrote:Exactly what I stated...rm9792 wrote:Wouldnt need and FFL anyway.
