Shooting Leaves 1 Dead, 11 Injured at Ohio Fraternity House

Post by billv »

Hope this doesn't doom the campus carry bill. Details sketchy. At least it didn't occur on the campus.

The shooting happened during a party early Sunday ...

How many "...told you so..." do y'all reckon this incident will generate?

Depends on whether a "hi-cap" magazine was used and whether or not Sarah Palin can be blamed for it.

Too bad the students weren't armed apparently.
Witnesses identified two possible suspects, both with ties to the area, he said.

"There were some unhappy guests. People at the party recognized them. Two of them were ejected," the chief said, adding they are not believed to be students.

The two who were ejected returned and "started lighting up the place," Hughes said.

A. This did not happen on a campus, therefore it is completely irrelevant to the "campus carry" issue. (Not that actual facts will deter the antis from using this to try to make their points.)
B. Though the details are sketchy, this doesn't sound like a "deranged gunman" incident. This was the continuation of a fight that started earlier that day. It sounds like the victim who was killed was specifically targeted by the two shooters and the 11 wounded were collateral damage.

I don't think the shooter will turn out to have had a concealed carry license.

Ohio doesn't have a campus carry law.

Shootings by folks who carry guns illegally are arguments for campus carry by CHL's, not against.

:iagree: what I'm reading.... 2 "shooters" .40 and .45 casings found... 2 non-students (probably gangbangers) earlier evicted from Frat party returned to shoot unarmed students like fish in a barrel.

I dunno Ohio laws, but I'd bet if any student HAD a chl, and was at a frat party where alcohol was, he was unarmed as a good law-abiding citizen..... so it's still similar to being inside a school building ... unarmed.

:tiphat: With all due respect, twenty-one year old Texas CHL's don't have any business at underage fraternity boozeathons either on or off campus, do they? It would take a very great deal of self-restraint to "just say no" in the bacchanalian fraternity party setting. Some have it, some don't.

I'm playing the :reddevil 's advocate here. Bring it on.

I think Oldgringo is right. A fraternity party with plenty of alcohol is the last place I'd expect an armed CHL holder with any sense to be. This is not about campus carry, it is more about something akin to a home invasion.

Didn't happen on campus and the two shooters will no doubt turn out to be gang bangers or other unsavory types.

Can't rule out a little drug dealing...going on either, but we'll wait and see.

The above article refers to Omega Psi Phi fraternity. Inasmuch as I put myself through university, I couldn't afford, nor did I have any interest in, being in a fraternity when I matriculated many, many years ago at the Big Orange University.

What, if any, is the difference from one frat to another? :headscratch
