Do you keep your rifles loaded too?

Post by Beiruty »

It is a given that carry and home defense handguns are loaded and in the safe as usual. However, what about 5.56 and say .22 Semi auto rifles (of course stored in a larger safe) do you keep them loaded too? :headscratch

Yes, I keep everything I might reasonably need in a hurry loaded. My .22lr is not loaded, but I have two shotguns, an AK-47, and AR-15, two pistols, one revolver, and a Bond Arms derringer loaded and ready to go 24/7. They are in different rooms of the house, hidden, but quickly accessible. If I have to defend myself, I will always grab a shotgun or rifle if I have an option. If not, the gun on my hip will have to do.

I thought all guns are always loaded :fire
Yes my AR sleeps next to me every night. The Mossy, 1911, MK9, LCP, 92, and revolvers are ready to go.

Besides the given, and my shotgun, my AR is locked and loaded, but I kind of doubt that the Garand would need to be pre-loaded. If I had to fall back to it, there are CLIPS at hand, and it loads fast. The others, including .22lr, are supernumerary to that selection.

No, but only because I have small children at home and my safe is not the gun variety, thus can't fit a long gun in it. I do, however, keep a loaded 30rd magazine in the safe.

Yes, I keep a AK underfolder under my bed with a 30 rd. mag inserted but nothing chambered. My adult daughters know where it is and how to use it. I also keep a glock 21 loaded at my bedside. The only thing I would ad is that I live in a very densely wooded area and am not concerned with overpenetration of the ak rounds

Not loaded in the safe but mags are loaded and next to my long guns in my safe. Nightstand pump gun and pistol are loaded with a flash light next to each.

I rely on the gov't to keep me safe as well...my gov't 1911! It stays loaded bedside, with a Moss Pump W/mounted light under the bed.
Around the house: M&P .40 (X2), XD .45, LCP, AR15, 357 MAG and a .38 All loaded and ready to go.
The only weapons that are not loaded are my .308 tactical, .308 hunting rifle and my son's .243

Good vid on how to make magnetic holsters for around the house:

I also have a few CLIPS set aside for my '03-A3, in case I need to do some serious long range home defense.

None of my rifles are kept loaded, but I do keep several full magazines handy in the same place with my AR carbine. I would never load or use my M1A or my .308 bolt rifles inside the house for self defense. The only shotgun I own is an over and under skeet gun.

A shotgun is kept loaded.
Rifles, usually not, but I have several loaded mags handy for my Mini-14.
