Ammo question: Federal Nyclad .38 Sp

Post by Heartland Patriot »

Hello,

Hopefully someone can pass on some knowledge about the following ammunition:

White box, Federal Premium, 38 Special, 125 grain, Nyclad HP, P38M. It is a very deep hollowpoint lead round covered in a blue nylon coating. I did a little reading on it and some folks seemed to give it good marks, but I haven't actually shot any of it yet as I only have two boxes. Can anyone who HAS actually fired this stuff give me their impression of it? Specifically, to use in an older but VERY good condition S&W Model 49 Bodyguard whose SN puts manufacture about 1973 and is thus not officially rated for +P ammo. I like the revolver and am thinking of using it for a BUG/vehicle weapon, but want to know if this ammo is a good choice. Also, how does this stuff compare in POI and recoil to Remington 130 grain FMJ, which is easy to lay hands on as a practice round? Thanks in advance.
