Do you keep your rifles loaded too?

Mossberg 500 and Ruger 44 tubes loaded but none in chamber downstairs. Saiga 12 and AR upstairs with multiple mags loaded but not in the guns.

One other thing... I'm proud we've made it this far without someone saying, and I hate it when people say this, "I a shotgun ready where I have to pump it, to get it loaded. That sound alone should scare anyone away."

Hearing people say that about shotguns is like nails on a chalkboard to me. It's a complete farce that people buy into and love to say at gun shops. /RANT.

...hate to ruin your proud, and scratch your chalkboard...but I know over a dozen times when the sound of an 870 racking sent the Converse tennis shoes into high gear...saw it with my own eyes while on the force...some it do...some it don't...have also seen it make a runner drop anchor and wait for you to catch up...several times...hard to predict but it DOES have an effect...the only sound I think that would scare me more would be to hear a woman's voice yelling she had a gun...

My main AR is loaded and ready. The hunting rifles and range guns are stored empty.

...in the information age, I ought to be able to find statistics on the average number of criminals per home invasion...but most of the ones I've read about ...the average is 3...3 slimeballs= 1.45 Zombies, by my math...a rifle or more is NOT out of the reasonable...

I don't have many guns, but all of them are always loaded.

Most of mine live in the big safe.

But, I sleep with my tactical Mossberg, affectionately called "Zombiekiller", standing in the corner next to my bed, with my PT709 on the nightstand, and my XDm .40 with two magazines in small bio-metric safe bolted to the night stand. My wife sleeps with her PT709 on her night stand.

I figure that if I can't defend myself with that mini-arsenal, then Karma had other plans.....

Rifles and non-HD shotguns: not loaded but rifle mags full and handy.
HD shotgun, loaded, empty chamber.
Sidearm: Cocked and locked, instantly available.

For rifles and shotguns:

Bolt action: mag full, chamber empty, bolt open
Semiauto: mag full, chamber empty, bolt locked open
Pump: mag full, chamber empty, bolt closed (too easy to chamber accidentally picking it up by the forend if kept with bolt open)
Single shot: chamber loaded, hammer down (both have transfer bars)
Lever action: mag full, chamber empty, bolt closed (just seems silly to have the lever sticking out all the time)
