Storage Wars
Watching an episode of A&E's "Storage Wars" tonight, I heard an interesting statement. One of the buyers said that if they came across firearms in a storage locker that they bought, they had to be turned in to ATF. I wonder what ATF does with such surrendered firearms? Are they sold or destroyed? I wonder how ATF would even know if one finds a gun buried deep in a box in the back of some abandoned storage unit? I'd bet not many are turned in.

Ummmm--- I don't know if that's true or not but, I think it's bunk. I mean if they find money do they turn it in to the IRS?

Re: Storage Wars
I've wondered about this myself. Let's suppose it it an estate sale where someone buys the contents of a house. In many cases, the auctioneers seem to sell the firearms as items on the estate. How is that different than the gun shows or FTF as long as the rules are followed?

What's the penalty for possession of a stolen weapon or money? Or possession of a weapon that was used in a crime?
I am not and have never been a LEO. My avatar is in honor of my friend, Dallas Police Sargent Michael Smith, who was murdered along with four other officers in Dallas on 7.7.2016.

Re: Storage Wars
you could just file the serial numbers off.

I have saw a few of these were they did find a shotgun and they just sold it to someone.

Probably the same as if you bought the used gun in a gun shop (or here) or bought stolen property from a thrift store.C-dub wrote:What's the penalty for possession of a stolen weapon or money? Or possession of a weapon that was used in a crime?
I believe the basic political division in this country is not between liberals and conservatives but between those who believe that they should have a say in the personal lives of strangers and those who do not.
Re: Storage Wars
Storage Wars is out of California where the laws are a bit more anti-gun.
I guess this leads me to a different question. If I were to open a storage unit in Texas and found a gun, how would I go about verifying that it was not stolen?

I think I heard someone say that the local PD will run the SN for you, but don't quote me on that.

Re: Storage Wars
so here's a question, say you buy a gun from a guy on the street, then go have the serial number run at the local PD... What then happens if it comes up as a stolen weapon? Are you then out the cost of the gun and the gun?Dave2 wrote:I think I heard someone say that the local PD will run the SN for you, but don't quote me on that.
