Passport Photo Question

This is my first post and I'm starting with a question. My instructor said during class to attach both photos to the passport holder. We asked about cutting one photo and attaching to the holder per instructions, and he said just to paperclip both photos to the holder. Is this correct? He said we would not want to take a chance in cutting wrong or attaching wrong.

I'm going for electronic fingerprints tomorrow and should be submitting the packet in person by the end of the week.

Attach it as instructed on the card. Cut it and tape it.

Thanks for the quick reply. One more question. I have been assembling according to my instructions in the packet. Per the instructions I cut and taped one of the photos I had signed. Reading more posts from this forum, I see where folks are recommending having the fingerprinter sign both photos. Packet instructions say one. Should I remove the taped photo for the printer to sign tomorrow?

It would not hurt, but I don't think DPS requires it.

Welcome to the forums Chaz; it's good to have you with us. (Yeah, I know I sent you a welcoming PM, but you get two.)

I would suggest that you have a look at the CHL Checklist for more hints and cross checks. The information there was provided by several CHL instructors in an attempt to help people avoid preventable delays in processing.

Another instructor here. Based upon the above and what I saw late yesterday, I'd say yes - just in case.

One of my lady students from a few months back came out for a brief sit down session last night and I reviewed DPS's "delay" letter. They had highlited text in the letter indicating that they needed "signature of person being fingerprinted" on the back of one photo - and they had returned for her signature the pictured that I had personally taped to the back of her passport photo holder. (Some tape was still attached). She said she could not remember for sure whether or not (as I had instructed) she and the electronic fingerprinting gal had signed the back of the other one.

Another hang-up was that, while the electronic fingerprinting gal had signed the fingerprinting cards, she did not get the applicant's signature on the 2 cards ... It kinda looked like both wimmen might have both been having a "bad hair day" ... Maybe one at DPS too? Who knows ...

During the DPS CHL Instructor course in August of this year, they said to have both photos signed, just in case one got separated from the application packet.

Nice-to-know-info there. Thanks Chas. Another good reason to hang out here.

But, ya know it would be nice if they would pass more of those things along to us in instructor "renewal" schools every two years.

And maybe change what they still put in writing on the pastel green sheet of instructions to the fingerprinters; Signature "on the back of one of the passport photos." (Bold type was THEIRS, not mine.) Maybe they'll make that change at the same time they update the 4-page yellow applcation form (7/01) which STILL says "Personal checks are NOT acceptable". (underline again, THEIRS, not mine.)

Agree with you on the wording. Definitely states 1 in bold. I went ahead and had her sign both so I should be covered. I am glad that the state is diligent in doing their work, but I feel the process could be improved. However, I am also glad that we have the right to endure the process and earn our CHL.
