Clear Lake Area Gunsmith

Post by Capt Roy »

I bought a new Kimber stainless Gold Match 9mm. I tookit tothe range last week and it shoots like a dream.. However I do not like the black on back sights. I posted on the Kimber forum and several older gentlemen like me had a high-vis front sight installed. Some painted their front sight...I'm going to put the high-vis on.. So.. who is a good gunsmith in the Clear Lake area to install it... Not the Arms Room... Talked to them, a 3 week wait to push a front sight on... can't do that..

Is there anyone else that could be recommended in the area..

Thanks,
Capt Roy

It takes less than five minutes! They can't do it while you wait or at least same day. Either their smith is insanely well known or he is on vacation. Ed Vanden Berg can do it. He is in that general area and comes highly recommended by other forum members as well.

He mainly does work on 1911's and AR's from what I can gather. I'd ask about the PT111 before making a trip down there. He is not the most social/friendly person I have encountered. Not rude, but I certainly did not get a warm fuzzy feeling from him, very down to business.

+1 for Ed Vanden Burg. He put the Warren Tactical Sights on my M&P9 and they are SPOT ON! Nice guy, works by appointment only so call first.

Kimber will install any sights you want. I'm not sure what they charge or what the wait time might be, but you might give them a call.
You only have to send the slide, so you don't have the hassle of shipping a gun. (Without the frame, it's just parts and is not a gun.)

I've heard they get really difficult about any future warranty issues if someone else has changed the sights.

I talked to Kimber and they gave me the size and recommended I send the slide to Dawson.. I asked about the waranty and they said they would not cover the front sight or dovetail... Which I expected..

I shipped it Monday... Yesterday Dawson called and told me it was on UPS coming home.. Very efficient..

It will be back today or tomorrow.

Thanks,
3 weeks?! They installed mine a couple weeks ago while I waited. Took 15 minutes max. Didn't even charge me for the install since I bought the sights there.

I will chime in again as I took in a friends slide for an XD to install some Truglos. I dropped it off Wednesday and I picked them up today. I might suggest if you do not get it done elsewhere, to try again if needed.
