http://www.academy.com/index.php?page=c ... ad&pgNum=6

The above link is to this week's ad for Academy Sports and Outdoors.

In addition to the 12 handguns on sale, there are 2 rifles and 2 shotguns on the same page.

I hope someone finds something they like.

Happy shopping.

Maybe they're more anxious to sell guns than they are safes?

We drove 53 miles one way to the Lufkin store to look at the advertised gun safes last Friday. When the three check out girls doing nothing next to the safes finally pried a clerk off of his leaning post back at the gun counter, he said one safe was broken (???) and he didn't have the key to the other. His demeanor indicated that he really didn't appreciate the interruption by a potential customer.

We didn't spend any money in Academy that day and, at this point, I can't foresee the day when we will.

Read between the lines on this ad.

The six handguns that are laid out in the top half of the ad say Price Drop, not sale price. Same with the Monarch ammo.

This indicates to me that the price has been permanently reduced and that the price will be the same for at least some time.

The ad has been made to look like these items are on sale, but I don't think they are.

The six handguns under the price drop are clearly marked "Everyday" for pricing.

The four long guns are also marked "Everyday".

I like that the Monarch Brass is now 9.99/bx 50, it now competes with WWB at Walmart at 19.99/bx 100 (which I picked up 600 rounds just Friday at Walmart in League City)

We need to see Federal to go back $1.0 to $ 9.47 per 50 rds. And, for the Tula steel to even lower.

Between the WWB and Monarch, I think the WWB is the cleaner round.

I would have to agree, but the Monarch brass is not too bad.
At least now, if Walmart is out of the 100 ct WWB, I can get good pricing at Academy

Many stores do that. I was in Target last week and several items had sale tags on the shelf, but the sale price was the same as the normal priced hidden behind the sale tage. The real question to me is if it's a good price, not whether it's cheaper than last week. For example, for the exact same item, I would rather pay a $20 everyday price at one store, instead of another store with a $30 normal price marked down to a $25 sale price.

Your older post pointing out the Walmart 100 WWB round deal has made me frequent Wallyworld almost every payday. My wife recently opened the downstairs safe to get some jewlery from it, and it was packed full of WWB 9mm. She gave me the "what the hell is this" look.

Thank god she has not found my .223 stash

If it was Gander mtn they would say "special package price", and the price would be full MSRP plus some trinket "valued at" a hundred bucks and really only worth a nickel, and theyd' advertise it as "reduced" by a hundred.
