No you need the 6" and 7" to round out your collection. :fire I agree on the carry though, my preferred is the commander (Kimber Pro CDP).

I was waiting to chime in on this until I got to shoot my sa ultra compact. I have and wouldn't have another 5" (to carry). This gun is beautiful and operates flawlessly, plus very accurate. I love it. Highly recommended

I know of a couple Colt Combat Commanders in $800 range.
800 sounds about where I wanna be. There is a kimber at a pawn shop here but it has the external extractor.
You will hear a lot of noise about the external extractor. I have a Kimber Tactical Custom with the external. I purchased it used, and was my second 1911, the first was a Kimber SS Ultra Carry. The ONLY problem I had with it was gunk in the slide. I don't think anyone had every cleaned it. Once I detailed stripped it and cleaned that out it has worked flawlessly for IDPA.

well I am almost afraid to buy another gun. Out of four handguns I own, Three have had to be sent back or still need to be sent back to the factory. The only one that was solid from the factory is my former Glock 23 and my current 19.

Problem is you only hear the bad stuff usually. For every bad one you hear about there are 1000's with no issues. I have gone thru dozens of 1911's and every problem was related to some knucklehead trying to be a gunsmith. I have had multiple factory new Kimbers, Springers and RIA with no issues. If you do have problems though there are a lot of knowledgeable people here to assist you or get you to someone who can.

Funny my less than 2 month old Glock has had more malfunctions than all my 1911s put together.... The thing even malfunctioned the first time I pulled the trigger which kinda soured me on it.
How do you explain a dog named Sauer without first telling the story of a Puppy named Sig?
