PROPOSED: DFW Skeet Meet #2

Post by The Annoyed Man »

Gentle People, AndyC has asked me to post a thread soliciting opinions about gathering together again for another DFW area skeet shoot, perhaps in the next couple of weeks. For obvious reasons, Saturdays are probably best. We can meet at Alpine again, or perhaps we could try out Elm Fork.

So far, I'm in, and so are The Annoyed Woman, The Annoyed Boy, and The Annoyed Fiancé. AndyC is in. BrianSW99, Mikeintexas, Ropin', are you all in? Anyone else? Beuller... Ferris Beuller? Let's git 'er done!

Refer here for pictures of our last outing: http://texaschlforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=87&t=38117" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I would like to try it out, but i only have a 18.5" Bennelli pump - it has a regular shoulder stock and no pistol grip - you think that would be allowable? I wish I had a semi-auto :grumble

Is there an Annoyed Dog somewhere too? Maybe one who likes to chase the Scaredy Cat through the neighborhood?

At Alpine, the barrel length wouldn't be an issue, but it might be at Elm Fork, for all I know. The regular shoulder stock is good. But I can tell you that my son brought his similarly configured Mossberg the first time we went, and he couldn't hit squat with it, but he shot superbly with my over & under - so in this case, it was the gun and not the shooter that was the problem. I don't know if it was the angle of the stock to the barrel that was a problem, or simply that the barrel length was too short, causing the shot pattern to disperse too much to be useful at that range. I don't know. But I do know that board member roping' used a long barreled pump gun - a Benelli, I think - fairly successfully at our last meet.

Actually yes, we do own The Annoyed Dog; but she is getting too old and gimpy to chase the Scaredy Cat.

I wouldn't mind Alpine again, but I would like to try Elm Fork some day.

I'm in. It's time to try out the 870. We're going to an IDPA match on March 12. Other than that, I'm available.

Ok, here are the prospective dates:

02/26 - 5
03/05
03/12
03/19
03/26

Why don't we take a vote? I'll come back and edit this post to record the votes for each date. The vote for 02/26 is mine, but I am very flexible. If a majority want to do it on some other date, I can easily change.

I'd have to check with Mrs. mikeintexas, but pencil me in. It doesn't matter which range to me.

I'm ready to get out after being in hibernation all winter!!

2-26 works for me.

AndyC wrote:Some comparisons, just fyi:

Alpine allows riot-type shotguns, as long as they have a full stock.
Skeet & Trap - $6.25 per round of 25 targets

Elm Fork does not allow riot-type shotguns:
No Riot Guns Allowed. (Gun must have full stock and min. 21” Barrel)
Range fees: $8.50 per round of 25 targets

Geekwagun - bring your shotgun and try it out; if it doesn't work, you can use my O/U
Thanks Andy - I will take you up on that

Alpine sounds good - for price and allowed gun

2/26 is ok AFAIK

I'd like to join, too. I'm not sure that I can even hit a clay, not having done it for years but I don't mind making a fool of myself (as I get lots of practice.)

What time on the 26th? Where is Alpine?
