If you are going to pick up another handgun for the interim, I would also suggest the Walther PK380. they are inexpensive (I paid $300 for mine), and as mentioned, you can rack the slide with 1 finger if need be. It also has little to no recoil. Of all the handguns I have ever fired, that one is the most fun. It is more accurate than I can shoot. I would think that 8 or 9 rounds of .380 (cant remember if the magazine is 7 or 8 rounds) would be better than 8 rounds of .22 or .32. I bought mine because my wife could not rack the slide on my XD40. We went to the gun show, and I told her to pick up and try to rack the slide on everything she saw, and when we found one she liked, we would buy it. She picked it up and immediately said "I want this one". It fits her tiny hands great, and oddly enough, it fits my large hands great as well.

If you are not interested in picking up another one, I will also recommend having her practice weak handed until she has the strength and confidence to do it with her strong hand again.

Another choice is a .22WMR revolver such as the Taurus 941. I don't have any experience with owning or shooting a Taurus revolver.

I picked her up a PK380 today. Going to the range after work. She has said that she may just have me load it and rack it and then hope she doesnt have to use it until she heals. In any case, got another one for the stable

It really is a fun little gun. I really dont think she will experience any issues with it.

After a few trips to the range, she likes the PK380 but still prefers her XD9.
We have been working on weak hand shooting and she is getting better but for now she will either have me load the chamber of the XD or she will carry the PK

I want to thank everyone for the input and help.
