Bar-Sto Barrel Failure

Post by bkjunk »

So as not to hijack a previous post, I thought I would start a new one. This is what is left of a BarSto barrel I had installed on my XDM back in March 2010 by Springer Precision. I probably have 3000 rounds down range and just recently started running my own loads.

Today I was testing a new 147 gr. Montana Gold load, when all of a sudden the recoil didn't feel right. I dropped the mag and tried to eject the round but the barrel came back with the slide. Eventually I got it cleared and loaded it back up for another shot. Before I pulled the trigger I noticed the striker indicator was sticking out twice as far as normal. Again I tried to eject the round and the barrel came back with the slide. This time it became clear to me that something was seriously wrong. I had to pull the trigger to get the slide off and when I did it flew forward about 5 feet.

I did contact Scott Springer, he responded to my email within 10 minutes, and stated that BarSto had a problem with the front lug clearance and recalled the barrell. He said I should contact them and they would replace and fit a new barrell to my slide. I called BarSto, but they are only open Mon - Thur. I also used the "contact us" link on their web site, it said to wait 3 weeks for a response, yikes.

If anyone is interested I will let you know how this works out.

YIKES! Nice of them to let you know about the recall BEFORE this happened :banghead: You (and they) are lucky you weren't seriously injured.
