Tendonitis Issue?

Post by Texas Size 11 »

I have tendonitis in my left wrist that flares up from time to time and prevents me from shooting any more that 25-50 rounds without curling up in the fetal position and sucking my thumb (not recommended at the range). Anybody else have this issue? If so what do you do to handle it? I made myself keep away from the range to give it some rest, but I won't be able to stay away for too long...

I am not a doctor, but it seems like you could be causing permanent damage if you continue to shoot with this much pain. Have you tried shooting with your other hand?

Sounds like its doctor time. Could be a form of carpal tunnel syndrome or something like that. There may be reasonable treatments that will provide great relief. Worth looking into if you have the time/resources.

I have the same thing, but in both wrists. I too have flare ups from time to time. I haven't had the issue while shooting yet as I have recently fairly recently started shooting handguns (been shooting long guns all my life) and havent had a flare up in a while. I did have to deal with it while lifting weights though, and found the best thing was to do just what you said, (no not fetal position and thumb sucking :smilelol5:) rest. That, and lots of advil was the only thing that helped.

Yeah, I made a doctor's appointment last week that takes place on Friday afternoon this week. I figured I need to get it checked out in case it is something worse or has worsened from the last go around with the doc.

It's a real pain - it is more than just the recoil that bugs me - picking up my kids, general twisting and turning, etc bothers me just as bad as the recoil of my favorite .40. It just hurts all of the time whenever I move my wrist.

What really stinks is that I got a new 1911 this week and all I can do is field strip it and lube it up. I've been looking at it and dreaming...

That is a big time bummer. It would be hard not to shoot pain or not if I had a new handgun.

I almost went anyway...I figured I'd wait until the doc looked at it before giving it a go. It's hurt before, but never this bad. I want to make sure that it isn't more than I think it is.

It calls my name and asks me why I haven't taken it to the range...in fact, I hear it right now. ;-)

Glad you're seeing a doctor. I hope it's an orthopedist. Could be anything from inflamation to carpal/cubital tunnel to fracture or worse. Tingling, pain, numbness, cramping etc are often associated with carpal and cubital tunnel. Do not ignore it. I know from experience. Bad things can happen even with surgery if you wait too long. The human body is still a mystery in many ways, that includes doctors. The things the human body can do itself in response to insult/injuries/chronic damage is scary when you suffer the results as I can attest. I hope you are able to get treatment for the problem and relief from the pain. Good luck.

You could always have your tendons removed. ;-)

That would solve it.

Definitely an ortho. I thought the pain would subside if I rested it, to no avail.

Yeah, I'd consider it if it were a viable option. I'm not a fan of pain...tried it a few times and still don't look forward to it.

I had carpal tunnel surgery about five years ago everything is OK now - - - don't shy away if surgery is suggested it will only get worse and hurt more left untreated.

Now about that new gun, box it up and ship it to me I'll shoot it until you are well enough to shoot it, (4 or 5 years.): Seriously, that's why God gave you two hands shoot it with the other one. ;-)

I prefer the surgey route...let's just get it fixed so I can move on.

I'll ship it to you if you pay the $400 shipping fee. ;-)

I almost went one handed with it, but had a feeling that I would revert and stick my other hand on too. I know myself too well.
