Body Scanners Emit Ten Times More Radiation Than Expected

Post by Snap E Tom »

No, they're safe, really. Janet and Congressional members won't go through one, but seriously, they're safe.

Statement from Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine
"Nonetheless, if TSA contractors reporting on the radiation levels have done such a poor job, how can airline passengers and crew have confidence in the data used by the TSA to reassure the public?"

I'm flying in a couple of weeks. I guess I'll have to opt for the enhanced groping now. :???:

It is pretty plain to see that their safety claims are nonsense. When dealing with radiation I think it would be pretty hard to determine the health impacts in the short time frame that these were rolled out in. People may be fine now, but what about in 5 years?

My car is radiation free, rape free, goes when and where I want, and carries guns too.

What, you mean the government lied to us to get us to give up our privacy? I'm shocked--shocked I tell you!

Yeah, but I haven't figured out how to get my car to get me to England, Europe, Asia, etc.

The article is long but does say that they don't really emit ten times the radiation.
But that the techs doing the tests, did the math wrong.

The TSA says the techs did the math wrong. We don't know if that's true or not. The article cites an example where luggage scanners were indeed emitting more radiation than is acceptable. They also talked to an ASU physics professor (albeit without much detail) about mechanical problems and the possibility of over exposure.

I would like to see someone go through one of the scanners with a meter and see what the reading is.
