Airsoft / Pellet / BB Gun

Post by Teamless »

We would like to get an airsoft or pellet or BB Gun to plink a bit in the back yard, or to shoo away varmints.
Any suggestions of which to go with, Airsoft, Pellet or BB and what are the pro's and cons?

Thanks

If you really want accuracy you should stick with a pellet gun. I have an FWB124 Rifle [not manufactured any more] that delivers a .177 caliber pellet at around 900 FPS. It is about the same size and weight as my Remington 700. The trigger is on par with the Remington and the accuracy at close range is much better than I can shoot. I don't have a varmit problem so I can't comment on that aspect.

Edited to Add: This type of pellet rifle is powerful and should be treated with the same rules as any firearm. It will shoot through both sides of a metal can so it shouldn't be used to "shoo away" varmits or any other animal. It is powerful enough severely injure or kill a person or an animal.

I bought a chinese training rifle (.22 cal break barrel pellet gun) at a gun show for $20. Works great and gives the boys the feel of a real rifle while they wait for next deer season.

IMO, if your goal is to use the pellet gun to improve marksmanship with a "real gun" this is an excellent way to do it. This sounds like a good find. Especially for the price!

My Air soft gun will shoot through both sides of a metal coke can, but it will hardly kill anything, or severely injure anyone, outside of a strike to the eye. There should probably be a better metric for measuring power.

There probably is a better metric, but I am not speaking of an aluminum Coke can. I am talking steel.
A magnum sporter could rip through over 10 cans. An 800 fps sporter will frequently tear completely through a 1” finished board, splintering out the rear as the pellet leaves.

it would also seem that one of you is talking about airsoft while the other is refering to a large pellet gun, ;-)
