Looking for a Compact 40Cal

M&P compact. Has a short picatinny rail on the bottom, G27 doesn't offer one. XD subcompact looked pretty sweet, but still went with S&W. M&P9c was my choice for now

Curious if you use your rail for any thing?

It sure makes finding a holster more difficult if it is used.

Actually bought a light/laser for field use with owb holster that it fits in. But also using the laser to train my hands on the position for firing from the hip. Basically trying to use it to learn how/where to shoot in a self defense situation where aiming down the sights wouldn't be allowable. Other than that no use for rails. Would've bought a CT grip except my M&P has the ambi safety and the CT grips won't work with it. Plus having the light on it in the woods is nice.

another vote for the Glock 27...utterly reliable, relatively easy to find (new or used), and just about every holster model has a version to fit..(trust me on this one)

Ok here goes:

I have an M&P .40c, a Glock 23 and a Sig 239. ALL OF THEM ARE EXCELLENT CHOICES.

The M&P offers 10+1 rounds the Glock offers 13+1 rounds and the Sig offers 8+1
Both the M&P and the Glock are about the same weight (the glock feels just a bit heavier due to the additional 3 rounds) but neither are heavy on the hip. The Sig does have some weight to it, but seems to have a little less felt recoil.

There is a little give and take with all three choices, but to have to choose between carrying one of these pistols is like having to choose between taking Anne Hathaway, Elle McPhearson or Faith Hill to your senior prom...Either choice is great!

My vote goes for a Smith & Wesson M&P 40 compact.

I've carried one for more than a year with a crossbreed supertuck and love it.

If you like walther, try the PPS. A bit on the expensive side, but I love mine!

I had a used one in my hand and almost walked out of the store with it. The only issue I have with Walther I had to mail order everything to go with my P99.

I love my PPS as well. Once I realized I could conceal a full size pistol in a Crossbreed, though, I now carry a full size M&P daily. The PPS gets carried when I need to use a shoulder holster instead of IWB.

i'm not too familiar with HK handguns, but i absolutely fell in love with the P30 when i was gun shopping a few months back. it was a bit out of my price range at the time so i didn't get it, but i do plan on buying one... some day. i was told that the P30 "replaced" the P2000SK, is that true?

+1 on the P239, I held several different guns before picking mine up and just liked the way it felt in my hand the most.

I have the Sig P239 and the Glock 23. I prefer the Glock for IWB carry as it seems to handle the Texas sweat (that inevitable occurs) better. I also like being able to keep “monster” clips in my vehicle, which is something only available with the Glock.

I didn't like the molded grip on the P30 at all... YMMV.. If I wanted that feature, I'd prefer a rubber add-on for comfort.
The P30 is about a half inch longer and about an inch taller (harder to conceal the extra height for me) and about 50 grams (1.8 ounces) heavier vs the SK

Anything HK that fits your requirements is OK by me

Congrats. I know that personally for me, it was a very hard choice between the xd, baby glocks and m&p. When money permits, I've decided I'll end up with each of them. Though at my rate it'll be a feeeeww years. Enjoy

yeah the molded grip on the P30 actually fit my hand a bit better than the P2000, and at the time i wasn't looking at it for concealed carry so the size wasn't really a factor. i'm in the process of [slowly] saving up for an HK, i'll probably go with a USP.
