My First AR Pistol

Post by pbwalker »

Got my lower in this evening and have spent my time putting together this beauty.

DTI 7.5" Upper, DTI BCG, DTI LPK
Palmetto State Armory Lower Receiver
.223 / 5.56

I can't wait to take this out to the range. Now to search for some optics. I'm leaning toward a Primary Arms Holo sight, but am open to other suggestions. Maybe iron for this pistol...who knows.

I think a red dot or holographic would accel on this gun b/c you don't have the most stability with fewer points of contact in an AR pistol so any ease of the sight picture will help. Good luck in your search and have fun with that thing.

...I'm especially interested about recoil/getting back on target for the second shot...these are intrigueing to me but I've only seen one...never had the opportunity to shoot one...seems like a great car/truck gun to get you back home...

If you are in or around the San Antonio area, you are more than welcome to join me when I take it out! I'm anxious to get out to the range, but it'll still be another week.

How much does the gun weigh, particularly all up with an optic and a full 20 or 30 round magazine? Just curious...

Good question...I don't have a good way to weigh it (short of sticking it on the scale in the bathroom), but I can say that it is heavier than expected. The front grip is pretty solid (YHM made). I imagine with a composite it would be lighter. There really is no ideal way to shoot this like a pistol. I find myself using the tube as a pseudo stock. I would like to try to build one with one of the composite lowers and work on getting it as light weight as possible (one day...).

This was more of a "cool to have" build for me and I don't think this will serve any niche I don't already have filled. I've gotten a few "Why?" and I just go with a "Why not?".

I'm sure I could, but it's a range toy. No need to conceal.

...thanks for the range invite, but I'm way far north of you...will wait for your glowing report...Galati International or similar companies should have a harness/sling for your pistol to facilitate carrying it discreetly...
