Liberty,

Race comes into the picture of who by-and-large were decent citizens, helped their neighbors, did not engage in burning and looting, did not prey on others, did not wait for government help but helped themselves and did not complain about no one taking care of them.

But addressing the race issue -- despite it being VERY relevant to the discussion -- would be too controversial here and this thread would get ugly and Mods would close it. Consequently, I really can't answer you. Besides, white people can't say anything negative about "minorities" without being called racist or bigoted, can they. Even if it's true. As long as that's the case, people tip-toe around the real problems which will as a result never be addressed OR even admitted.

As for how to tell the criminals/bums from the decent people, it's really pretty easy. How can you have some years on you in life and not be able to make character calls? [A rhetorical question]

And as for helping those people, I have done that myself, but my help (and $$) only go to the decent victims, not the lazy trash...to the devil with them.

I can only hope next year's hurricane season finally flushes that city, the sorry racist mayor, his racist supporters and all the many criminals infesting that place into the Gulf. I am really sorry to see what they have done to New Orleans.

cloudcroft, don't post that dribble ever again...please.
We don't appreciate it. The criminal element can take any form. Race has NOTHING to do with it. Shoot, CHL'ers commit crimes too, and we are supposed to all be upstanding citizens.

the ones in my apt complex that cause the most strife are, indeed, pasty.

however, to disallow generalizations is to overindividualize a commonality.

Well lucky for you, simple ignorance isn't a crime. Far be it from me to censor anyone. I love the 1st and will defend your right to spew forth such disease as long as I live. But don't expect to gain any respect for yourself with these comments.

in-ter-est-ing. just caused a little reflection in me.

My sister lives in NOLA (still). We had her evacuate to our home in Dallas, and then went back with her less than 2 weeks after Katrina, saw a lot of stuff I'd rather forget. I didn't own a gun at the time.

Since then, I started shooting. I shoot on average about 500 rounds a month. I shoot in IDPA matches. I've been to Valhalla (with my sister) for some training(must go back). I got my CHL and am applying for an FFL. If you'd been there, you'd think the same thing I do:

Be responsible, get a gun. Police? forget it. That National guard guy a mile away who hasn't started shaving yet? Maybe but fat chance. The Blackhawk circling over my head?? Duck. Again, Police????? Never saw one. Besides, even if there were any, how were we going to call them? Smoke signals?

So get a gun. Not only that, get more than one. Make sure you get one in a FTF deal (legally of course) so the Govt won't know you have it when they come to take them away like the did in NOLA after Katrina (Yes, they did and people there are still trying to get them back. Seems you need you original purchase receipt).

whiteblackyellowbrownprupleforcryinoutload, sign means the same thing:
YOU LOOT, WE SHOOT

Call me a freak, but I shoot because I love to shoot. Punching holes in paper is a great way to spend a day for me. But if anything like that ever happened here...

And before you flame me, no offense intended to the LEO's here. NOLA was different.

You may have had 0-skills 2 years ago, but 500 rds a month & regular IDPA competition will fix that quick. I suspect you are quit proficient by now. Good job.

Thanks LT, seems I have good days and bad days. Some days I cant miss, and others it feels like I've never held a gun in my life. But those days are getting rarer.
