Need Good Gunsmith in Carrollton Area

Post by QB »

I purchased a Glock 19 with Trij nighsights and the front sight was installed crooked. Do you have a recommendation for a good gunsmith in the Carrollton area? I know that B&S Guns in Garland has a smith that works on Glocks but they are quite a drive for me and I don't know anything about him. Someone closer to Carrollton or Plano would be good.

I already know about SPS Guns (in Carrollton) but unless they have changed owners/gunsmiths in the last few years I won't ever use them again.

I could probably re-set it (it's one that has a set screw, not staked or pinned) but the little small tool that I have that came with some other sights won't losen the screw and I don't want to damage it. The tool is too small to really get a good grip on it.

Thanks

I've heard god things about Doc's GunShop on Whitlock lane near 35E, I wanted to have night sights installed, but it would be two weeks for them to start.

I ended up going to a smith in McKinney and got it done in 5 days.

Closed on Sundays and Mondays. Doc is often so backed up, it might take a while. With it not being hunting season, ya might get lucky. ;-)

Yeah, I called and got their recording that said they were closed Sun/Mon. I'll give them a call or drop by and see what their schedule looks like. They might have time since it's a small job, I'm in no hurry.

I hear good things about Doc's gunsmith.
I was in the new Carrollton gun shop a few days ago (Big Slim's on the corner of Rosemeade and Marsh). They have a gunsmith that they use but is not stationed in their store. I don't know who they use or if he/she is any good.

There's another in Downtown Lewisville that works out of "the old Gun Shop" on the square. I've heard good things about him.

Took my slide to Doc's and they said it would be ready in a few days, they'll call me. The guy was very friendly and helpful, said Doc has done gunsmithing work for 30 years. Doc was out but I hope to meet him when I pick up my slide.

Thanks for the recommendations/comments.
