Though the idea may be distasteful to the purists among us, I would suggest that members of an ROTC Drill-team or Rifle-team simply put their weapons (real or not) in a bag or case when carrying them about the campus.

If one looks up the old articles on the Colton Tooley incident, .... the police .... made a statement that Colton did nothing illegal that particular day until he fired shots in the city limits and when he entered a campus building with a firearm
I know police aren't lawyers, but I found the fact that they made that statement to the press interesting.

Other stories say he was seen moving the guns from one car to another, and he came forward to identify himself to the police after he received the alert message.cbr600 wrote:Maybe. I can't tell from the story if he was in a building or if there was a school sponsored activity on the grounds. (Schools are in 46.03 - not 46.035)Smily wrote:Cant you open carry long guns in Texas?
Even if they were real rifles though, Smily is correct and there were no laws broken. From what I have read of the various stories on this, some busybody panicked at the very idea of a firearm on campus and the school way overreacted. The original call to the police even said he was moving the guns between cars. My opinion is that this is the result of gun bans being in place for so long. People will panic at the mere thought of a firearm unless they also see a police uniform. I have problems with that.

Drunk college students driving home from 6th st are way more scarry!
In other news!!! Man walks down the street with a LOADED Stapler that could puncture skin!
Next we will have registrations for all Martial arts training schools. You will have to register yourself as a deadly weapon after you reach yellow belt! Then you will not be able to enter any school because you might SNAP and start killing people when you get a bad grade!

Even if he didn't think he was breaking a law, why speak up? Some crazy university administrator could to try to get him expelled or something. I learned my lesson the hard way in high school for doing something I had permission to do, then it caused a problem, I made the problem aware to same person, and then I almost got expelled because he tells the principal I never had permission.srothstein wrote:Other stories say he was seen moving the guns from one car to another, and he came forward to identify himself to the police after he received the alert message.
