New Sig 1911-22

Just returned home after trying out the new 22! This 1911 style Sig is so much fun! Runs like a "real" gun - which will be a plus for my youngest daughter getting comfortable with drills before moving up to the 9mm. Great for practicing sight picture as the green 3 dot sights are easy to see. The weight is heavier than some which, to me, makes it great for practicing - while being cheaper to shoot. (MAR just informed me it is almost identical in weight to the full sized M&P 9 empty)

We went to check out a gently used full sized M&P 9 for use as an IDPA gun... of course we had to look at ALL the cases and saw the Sig 1911-22. Of course we had to touch it. Then because the youngster would be "jonesed" it had to come home.

Were told, but have not confirmed, that it accepts the GSG magazines. This is good because it is so new that Sig doesn't have extra mags available. Manufacture date on this one is March 2011. It is a rebranded ATI GSG 1911-22....

I like it!! Of course I did not win points for going for a test drive while the child was in class. My reasoning for not taking her - wanted to make sure it ran well before she got it!

22's are FUN

Nice! I was heavily considering a GSG .22 before I went with a ruger 22/45.

And you're right.... a .22 pistol is a BLAST!

Oldest daughter told us "you have a problem" when we came home with yet another .22


You see...... we also have a Ruger Mark II with a 5.5" bull barrel, a Smith 22A two tone and now the Sig. Ruger fun to shoot but a booger to load the mags and the bottom mag release does not make it defensive pistol drill friendly. Smith has better mag release and MUCH easier mags to load, but the "slide" is hard on the initial cocking and the finger grooves are sharp. The Sig runs like a 1911 so will fit the defensive drills well! I guess there are worse problems to have....I guess we have the little known sub-diagnosis of TMG syndrome of TM22! It seems to be catchin' around here!

See... it is catching. I knew we weren't the only ones with TMGS. That statement just proves it.

It is fun and accurate to shoot, but due to the location of the mag release, not a good defensive training gun.

What is this "TMG" of which you speak? I'm pretty good at acronym's, but this one has me stumped. Here are my closest guesses, but they just don't seem right in the context of the posts above.

Took My Gun (as in "hey someone took my gun, now I am down to less than 30!!!)

Tell My Girl (I get to tell my girl that I just bought her another gun )

Taxed My Gun (dang gubmint )

Too Minute a number of Guns (this one fits, but TMG is a strange acronym for the phrase)

Can someone help me out?

TMG, or TMGS, has been used to refer to a mysterious affliction that many members of this board (and several others, I imagine) seem to have contracted. The acronym stands for Too Many Guns Syndrome. Some people are in denial regarding this affliction, which can be seen by the oft repeated mantra "You can't have too many guns". Others embrace it and follow the old MTV slogan replacing MTV with guns, as in "Too much (many) is never enough."

We have nearly enough .22 LR pistols (3), but with only two rifles and no revolvers in the safe there is room to grow....

So in other words, its an acronym to describe a mythical thing that could never exist in reality. Kind of like saying that I have too much money, or too much love in my life?

Is this possibly used to describe those that a person is jealous of because that person has DOG (Deprived Of Guns) syndrome? It makes some sense in that context.

I suffer from a similar but related afliction. TFS (Too Few Safes). My guns are starting to complain about their overcrowded living conditions.

To the best of my knowledge, SIG just started marketing these within the last couple of months (after the SHOT show). The only differences I could tell between the SIG 1911-22 and the GSG 1911-22 are the grip panels (double diamond checkered on the GSG vs. stippled on the SIG) and the names on the slide, frame and magazine. We paid $390 plus tax for it. On a trip to the LGS yesterday I saw two GSG 1911-22 models in the case which had not been there the day before. I think they were priced at either $350 or $380.

I don't know if the GSG ships with three different front sight posts, but the SIG does. Shot wonderfully to point of aim out of the box with the installed sight post. Like the GSG, it is similar to a full size 1911, but weighs a bit less. Takedown is also a bit more tedious than a true 1911, requiring removal of two pins and a screw since it is a fixed barrel. The oversized ambi safety is nice, as is the beavertail grip safety.

Frankly, I'm still waiting for someone to make a scalled-down 1911 in .22LR, like Llama used to make.
Browning supposedly has come out with one, but it's pricey and I've not seen one. If I ever do it will probably follow me home.
