Leaving your firearm in the car?

Your will never see temperatures near 200° inside a car, unless it is intentional. The temperature reached inside a car on a hot summer day should be the least of your concerns.

I agree that temperature shouldn't be a concern for the guns, but be careful about your tender skin if you reholster IWB.

And we all know about leaving children and pets in cars, right?

We have 3 lock boxes keyed alike. 2 in the car since we travel together in that one more often, and one in the truck. They padding to protect the weapon seems to be pretty good at insulating against temperature extremes. I use a car shade in my front window, and this helps with "concealment" while reholstering as well as keeping the vehicle a little cooler - of course it is just now getting hotter in our area, but the lock box seems to be keeping the weapon cooler than other metal things in the vehicle. We are very pleased with the boxes!

Console vault gets my vote. I keep my Glock 30 in it while i'm at work, works great.

The biggest hassle with any of the in-car safes is trying to get the gun in and out of it in the middle of a parking lot without anyone noticing.

Only time I was ever in that situation I told the onlooker I was having trouble with my colostomy bag and didn't want to stink up the courthouse.
Most folks don't know a colostomy bag is usually on the left side and they'll buy the excuse every time. Works for cases of "printing" too.

I've kept my pistol in my middle console with no safe or any type of security whatsoever ever since Rick Perry signed (and before my CHL). I'd be more ticked off if someone stole my car than my handgun being stolen. If I lived in Houston though, it'd be a different story.

I use the Center of Mass gun lockers available here:

It's fairly sturdy and attaches with steel braided cable. A determined thief could get it if they have enough time and the right tools, but I believe it provides reasonable protection from your average smash and grab job.

I removed my NRA sticker because I was afraid I was advertising. But I'm a lot more concerned about damage to my truck than I am about losing the Glock that they would be stealing.
