I have a friend who recently acquired a Hi Point .380, which I will admit I was fond of until such time as I realized that a roll pin (or similar punch-style object) is required for field-stripping.
I've seen 1911s field stripped without any bushing tool,FWIW.
While I don't make a habit of doing a FS at the range, I do prefer to have the option if something comes up, and I'd rather not have to chuck something else into my range bag to give me the option. As far as SD scenarios go, chances are if you need to FS a gun in the heat of such a moment...well...how's your throwing arm?
