Places to buy Ammo??

I'm new to Texas and the Pearland area. I would like to know if there is a place that kind of specializes in ammo sales.

I have kind of did a cursory look around but I am used to places like surplus ammo and arms that was about 20 miles from my house where I could get whatever I needed for a great price and a lot of it...

I'm not affiliated with them but you may want to check them out...cause, if there isn't any place close to my area that is like them and one that can offer similar prices or bulk I'm going to have to order from them because I'm looking at buying 500-1000 rounds of either Lake City or Federal in 5.56

That's not every place you can buy ... midway is cheaper sometimes ... depends on sales etc.

So judging by the responses I'm getting that the best bet is to buy on line then???

Huh, well I'm thinking if we could get some ppl who live relatively close to each other we could probably start setting up some group ammo buys and try and negotiate a cheaper price or maybe lower shipping etc...

IF you buy in bulk, then yes. Otherwise the shipping would negate savings. I just bought about 2,000 rounds on ammotogo today.

Keep in mind you have to pay tax AND shipping at Ammotogo if you don't pick it up. the-armory.com and ammoman.com have always been good sources too.

Can't remember name of place but I've heard there is a good ammo source in Brenhem, on US 290 about an hour from Houston. May be one of the links already posted.

Also in Austin area, GT Distributors regularly has bulk boxes of 55-grain Federal FMJ for about same prices you stated in OP.

Yes, that's the place. I've heard Independence has a HUGE selection but haven't made it by there yet. Next trip to Houston ....

A site that offers listings of ammo prices from multiple sources is http://gun-deals.com/ammo. Its listings come from user contributions, so some are "fresher" than others, but because of that it does span a very wide range of vendors, it doesn't depend on automated bots to find pricing.

In addition to some of the sources mentioned, I've also used and been pleased with Natchez Shooters Supplies, AIM Surplus, Graf & Sons, ABLE Ammo, and Wideners. You can also find some good deals periodically through Sportsman's Guide, particularly if you opt to pay the annual "Buyer's Club" fee and are able to take the extra discount.

As others have mentioned, I'm cautious in comparing pricing. Sales tax and shipping have to be factored in in order to be accurate, and I've found the best way to do a side-by-side comparison is to break down the fully-burdened price into cost-per-round. Minimum quantity for a particular deal may vary from vendor to vendor, so the fully-burdened cost-per-round is the only real apples-to-apples comparison.

Last up, just a note that before buying green-tip .223 ammo, I'd be certain I understand the range rules where I'll be doing most of my shooting. Some ranges--whether it makes sense or not--prohibit M855/SS109 ammo, and most will forbid it to be shot in the direction of steel targets. Since the official NATO round is the SS109, that's the easiest to find in surplus, and your range may not care. While I've been in some situations where shooting at steel required frangible rounds, I've otherwise never had any issues with using M193 at any range that allowed AR-15s. Just a thought.

I havent found any place around pearland where you can buy in bulk. I think online might be the best route. Welcome to Pearland!
