WWB Personal Protection Ammo
I recently added a 9mm to the family and I'm looking for self defense ammo for it. I picked up some WWB 9mm Luger 147 GR. JHP Personal Protection ammo from Wal Mart today. At the price of $13.97 for 50 rounds I couldn't pass it up. Has anyone had any extensive range time with this ammo? If so, how did you like it? I know there are lots of better choices out there but I'm trying to save a little coin while carrying a adequate defense ammo.

Re: WWB Personal Protection Ammo
Thats a great price, as compared to what I bought for $20 for 25 rounds.
I am interested to hear others thoughts on it as well

Spare no expense for a box of 25 or 50 high quality PP ammo! Use the cheap stuff for target practice. Even if your PP ammo cost $5. a round...what is your life worth???

I'm pretty sure the Winchester white box JHP ammo is not bonded. Walmart does carry the Winchester PDX1 JHP ammo which is bonded, and fairly reasonably priced. From what I've read online, PDX1 does well in ballistics tests.

Re: WWB Personal Protection Ammo
IIRC, the "generic" 9mm 147 grain JHPs have a not-so-good reputation out of pistol-length barrels. They will certainly punch a .355" hole, but may or may not have a bullet design or sufficiet velocity for much, if any expansion. On the other hand, I believe Federal's "premium" HST load with the same weight bullet has been performing much better in both ballistics gel testing and "real world" incidents.

Re: WWB Personal Protection Ammo
147 gr JHP WWB ammo is old technology that didn't work well when it was the latest and greatest. If finances preclude buying top notch ammo buy the WWB or UMC 115 gr JHP loads. Those worked well in "the day" and still work reliably now. The Rem/UMC 115 gr load has a reputation of feed reliability unmatched by any other so called "bargain" ammo and many premium brands. All Remington JHP pistol ammo is uber reliable both in feed and terminal effect.
I carry CorBon DPX in both my 9mm and 40 caliber guns. A little over a buck a shot but, I'm worth it. I have a stock pile of UMC JHP ammo in 9, 40, .45, and 357 Mag as a backup to my stock of various Premium JHP ammo.
Seriously, old style 147 gr JHP aren't much better than FMJ ammo get some 115 or 124 gr premium ammo as soon as you can.

I like the 124 grain, speer gold dot ammo. Here it is for about fifty cents a round...roughly. They have it in +P loads and standard loads. http://www.ammoman.com/index.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: WWB Personal Protection Ammo
If the ammo is junk I will use it for target practice and not PP. I don't mind paying more for quality ammo. However, if I can buy a lower priced product and get the same quality as the higher priced product I'm going with the lower price. More money doesn't always mean more bang.Running Arrow Bill wrote:Spare no expense for a box of 25 or 50 high quality PP ammo! Use the cheap stuff for target practice. Re: WWB Personal Protection Ammo
This is the cheapest place I have found to buy good quality PP HP ammo. They ship fast and you can usually get 50 rounds cheaper than most places sell 20 rounds for.

I have bought from these folks also. Once you add shipping and tax, they are a little higher, but not by much.Right2Carry wrote:This is the cheapest place I have found to buy good quality PP HP ammo. They ship fast and you can usually get 50 rounds cheaper than most places sell 20 rounds for.

I guess if you order a single box that would be true, but I tend to order a few boxes at a time to take advantage of the shipping cost.03Lightningrocks wrote:I have bought from these folks also. 10 boxes of 124 grain Gold Dot is 279.74 delivered, at ammunition to go. 10 boxes of the same ammo at ammoman is 275.00 delivered. This is what I meant by a little higher. One box would be a lot higher but ammoman doesn't sell just one box. You have to buy at least 500 rounds at ammoman. For me this is not a problem as I usually buy at least that many rounds when placing orders for ammo. I was pointing out that the two are close.Right2Carry wrote:I guess if you order a single box that would be true, but I tend to order a few boxes at a time to take advantage of the shipping cost.03Lightningrocks wrote:I have bought from these folks also.
