a former Marine had it for sale locally

I know nothing about AR's except which end makes the big noise

He said it was a "WASR", upgraded with some internal parts and refinished.

Included some HP ammo, two mag's, and the strangest looking bayonet system I've ever seen.

Gave a few hundred for it.

Think I should have it engraved with the Bin Ladin date? ;-)

I'd say the date engraved somewhere would be cool.

Just a few heads up for you since you have an AK now:
Good source of extra magazines: http://www.aimsurplus.com/catalog.aspx? ... +Magazines
Good source of all discussions AK in nature: http://www.warriortalk.com/forumdisplay ... Aficionado

Enjoy the dark side! Oh and WASR means its a Romanian AK. Now you've got to get started collecting the other countries....Russia, Hungary, Yugoslavia, China.... :cheers2:

Nice score, looks like it is in excellent shape.

Was it purely in the spirit of the moment or do you have a specific type of role for it? I've been thinking an of an SKS for a general, do it all semi-auto rifle (with affordable ammo!) since I currently only have bolts.

I've gone through about eight or more SKS's:

from rare, original:

to BubbaTac

But for some strange reason this is my first AK.

I work with a guy who knows them well, and he suggested I jump on this deal after he'd inspected it.

SKS is a fine battle rifle. :cheers2:
