Thanks very much for the good advice. I care little about handing down the class 3 license to family since I am still a relatively young divorced bachelor at this point, so I feel very comfortable with having a legally qualified person sign off on the ATF form and the only possessor being myself. However, I would still rather not jump through all these loopholes you mentioned of a trust, and bank account, yada yada. I know in the end, I just need a good lawyer who is familiar with NFA regs and can walk me through this. I just hate the fact that they will charge me the going rate of my first born son.Carry-a-Kimber wrote: Make your own trust with Quicken Willmaker 2009, get it notarized, and set up bank account in the name of the trust. You can even have a lawyer look over it if it makes you feel more comfortable. Quicken costs about $40. Corps and LLCs sometimes have registration fees, startup fees, or other costs associated with them. If you are looking for cheap, Willmaker is as cheap as you are gonna get. That said, you get what you pay for, a good lawyer that is familiar with NFA regs might save you A LOT of money in the long run. I would rather pay the $$ up front than $$$$$$ later. A goofed up trust can cost you $200k and 10 years, it HAS happened. Just because the ATF says you can use your trust today doesn't mean that won't say it is an invalid trust later. BUT... A plus with a trust is you can have multiple people on it that are able the possess the NFA item, if you use a CLEO signoff ONLY the person on the ATF form can be in possession of the NFA item. Just some thoughts.

The good thing with a trust is its a "buy once, cry once" type of thing. It will actually save you the headache of getting photos, prints, and signoffs any time you want to buy an NFA item.CarnivorouZ wrote:Thanks very much for the good advice. Re: CLEOs that will sign Form 4
So you're saying I get a trust setup and I don't have to do the whole photos and prints fiasco this time or any other...or just in the future? I don't mind the photos and fingerprints as between the military, CHL, govt work, I have done them all more times than I have fingers for, but if in the long run it comes out more cost effective...say if I ever want a suppressor for the AR, then it might be economical to go the trust route. And once again, I need a NFA trust lawyer in SA,TX that isn't charging ridiculous fees because remember, when a class 3 weapon be it suppressor or machine gun gets traded, it costs $200, no matter what. So I am looking at $250 for suppressor, $200 tax stamp, $75 Class 3 dealer transfer fee, plus whatever cost from a NFA trust lawyer...one can quickly see how this is all adding up to a stupidly high amount for a simple suppressor.Carry-a-Kimber wrote:
