New shooting Glasses

I'm a right hand shooter and left eye dominant. Not an issue for me. Many great marksmen (and I'm not one of them) are cross dominant.

True, but cross dominance may affect which way you do monovision glasses. (One eye set for distance and one for close work.)

My point exactly, I might should've gotten a set with the left adjusted. I may end up there, we'll see...Hahah no pun itended.

Well, mixed results. I think I need to admit the cross dominance and get the stronger lense for the dominant eye and just roll with it. My brain keeps moving my head to put the dominant eye in place and then I am forced to close it or I can't see squat down range. Back to the drawing board. I met a guy at the range yesterday that has a set of those fancy glasses you see on the internet, and he said it took three different tries to get his the way that would work for him, I'll ty again.

Because of monovision, I now shoot right handed, left eye dominate. Since my right eye is my dominant eye, with distance contact on right eye I cannot see the front sight clearly.

Since I am not sure if I will like them, I just went local and bought a cheap pair that had large lenses that aren't too dorky looking. Cost like $45.00 Once I decide what works , I may go back nd order the safetyglasses I saw that had side panels for like $90.

I considered the higher placed bifocal, but I think I would constantly be searching for it like I do with my progressive lenses.

I wonder about that too. I used stick-on bifocals for several years on my fishing glasses before springing for a prescription pair. The stickons worked ok but I wish I'd gotten the real thing earlier; they work great

I think I'll experiment with some stick-ons to see if the upper placement would cause problems. Since the sights are rather large compared to printed type, a weak pair of stick-ons may work or at least give me an idea if they will.

I took a stick-on lens and trimmed it to fit in the upper left corner of the right side of my glasses. They work great. There was little to no problem with the bifocal set that high; I made sure I trimmed it so it is in a natural place for my shooting position but doesn't block my normal distance position.

I'm getting an eye exam in two weeks from my ophthalmologist in order to get an updated prescription and have the focal length measured to my front sight. Then I'll select a vendor.

I have talked to a local shop, Speks, about getting the glasses made. They seemed knowledgeable but I plan to get a second opinion locally and then compare to the Hansen product. I'm a little uneasy about a mail order set of glasses...we'll see.

Regarding 'Hansen's Eagle Eye', i have sent two e-mails to that gent, so far, thare has'nt been a response to either.

For me, I just want glasses to work. Range, driving, or looking up a number in the 'phone book.

SpiderMan Wanna-be specs isn't quite what I'm looking for.

Neither is the 70's bug eye specs.With a bit of help and advise from a personable gent at ISS, (Neal Stepp), Ft. Worth, and an Opthmologist/Optometrist I just may have found what works for me.

I have a Opthmologist/Optomitrist appt next week.

Should anyone be interested, I'll post the results.

I felt the same way.

I've got an old pair of RayBan "shooting" glasses from the mid 80's and I've put a piece of a stickon on them up in the left hand corner. They work great and are better than the experiment I did with my regular glasses. BTW, my youngest daughter told me the RayBan aviator/shooting glasses are "in" again....I'm with you though they are a bit retro for me.

We'll compare notes. My appointment is in about 10 days.

Had my annual vision check up today. Have been rather dreading asking my doc about shooting glasses as you just never know how people will take the "G" word. Turns out shooting is one of his hobbies, and he wants me to come back and bring my weapon - requested it be unloaded and in the case - so he can fit me in "test" pair of glasses before I order a full pair. He doesn't care if I get the final product from him or elsewhere, but will be happy to help me choose a pair and RX that will meet my needs! Can't wait to not have to wear 2 pair of glasses under my hearing protection!

I had my checkup on Monday with TxD's daughter in Alvin. She let me bring my pistol unloaded and in the case. I'm getting a pair with a bifocal on the right lens with the magnification on the top. She worked with me to get the magnification spot on for my front sight. And with the bifocal on the top I simply tilt my head down slightly while in my shooting stance. I don't think she could have figured out how to build those glasses without allowing me to use my pistol to do so. Anyway, I'm looking forward to getting them soon and I'll follow up on their performance once I get out and use them.

For what it's worth, I called several eye doctor's in the Galveston county area and met with "sorry, we don't allow firearms in our building" responses. I'm so glad I found out TxD's daughter was an optometrist and her practice is shooter friendly. I'm sure I'll be a patient there for many years to come.

My optometrist is in Missouri City, just up the road from there, and she has me bring my AR-15 in (cased) to prescribe for my right eye. Never asked her about a pistol prescription though. I do carry at her office but doubt she notices.

If you want her contact info, let me know. Not a paid commercial, I just appreciate good care from a medical professional.

My Doc also mentioned he is planning a new office and since more people seem to be asking he is thinking of setting up an area/exam room for this purpose - fitting target safety glasses! I told him I would refer folks! I like him anyway and would refer regardless, just helps that he will "support my habit"

Just ordered my new shooting glasses. Took my JG and my Liberty to the Doc's office as they are the extremes of my sight radii (is that even a word). It was kinda wierd toting gun rugs into a eye doctor's appointment. We used the mirror to get about 24 feet and just the wall to get about 12 feet with a target so he could adjust a prescription that would give me a clear sight picture, yet allow me to see the target AND work up close for reloads, jams, etc. He then asked if I wanted to see what it looked like with my 9C that I carry as we had discussed it was the mid-sized I would be using. With his permission and at his request I pulled it out, cleared, confirmed clear with MAR and the Doc and he said, "wow I feel like such a girl, I carry a little LCP in my pocket"

The lenses I am trying are called "Drivewear" they go from a light greenish tint for dim lit situations and low light, and are a transitioning lens to a dark amber for bright sunlight. Can't wait to try them out, will take 7 - 10days, so unfortunately won't have them for this weeks class, but will be another excuse to go the range! Can't wait to not have to wear 2 sets of glasses under hearing protection!

I bought a stick on lens for my $7 shooting glasses (after I lost my Oakley Half Jackets). It works great. But then I'm heavily right eye dominate and right handed.
