Beginning to love revolvers
My first gun purchase was a Glock 26 last December. For lack of a better reason, I got it by "default" due to the positive reputation of Glock and the 9mm Luger caliber. I also had some limited Glock 19 experience a few years back.
After getting my "SA" CHL with that gun, I realized I needed something smaller.
At first I considered the varuous .380 semis, but then I was swayed towards a S&W 442, which I "bonded to" far better than the G26, and it immediately became my EDC.
My third purchase was a 3" SP101 .357, and I see myself carrying that as primary and the 442 as a BUG.
For some reason I love the revolvers and see the G26 as being "soul-less" in comparison.

Re: Beginning to love revolvers
I shot a revolver for the fist time when I made my last trip to the range, been 2 months now I need my fix, and I fell in love with the smith & wesson revolver .38+p that I rented. Something about it just seemed so "right".

I describe revolvers are more "organic", which I realize sounds lame. Also, they seem to fit the body and hide better.loadedliberal wrote:I shot a revolver for the fist time when I made my last trip to the range, been 2 months now I need my fix, and I fell in love with the smith & wesson revolver .38+p that I rented. Also, they are simpler and more reliable. I'd trust my 442 more than an LCP or P3AT any day, even if it means 2 fewer rounds.
I'm taking the SP101 out to shoot tomorrow morning for the first time. I figure I'll start with .38 specials and finish with the serious .357 stuff.

Re: Beginning to love revolvers
Even with the vast choices of semi autos, wheel guns are still a popular choice for personal protection to this day.
I love my trusty Smith & Wesson snubby. It easily goes everywhere I go. Sometimes as a BUG, sometimes as a primary.
The only thing that can make a 5 shot revolver better is the addition of a set of Laser Grips IMO.

Re: Beginning to love revolvers
I used to shoot PPC (Police Pistol Combat) matches back in the late 70's and early 80's. All we used back then were revolvers. If you ever shot a truly custom tricked-out pistol of any kind, you would almost never want to shoot targets with anything else again.
Here is one that is similar to what I had; a S&W Model 66 with a Clark Custom barrel on it
I think the only thing that would compare to it was my custom Gold Cup National Match I had for for shooting bowling pins.

Re: Beginning to love revolvers
As being someone who went the .380 route and then went to .38 special I would totally agree with you. Better to have a .38 Special bug then a .380. Aren't those SP-101s nice. Everybody I know who shoots mine loves it. Best revolver for the money by far and I have had no problems with it, unlike my smith. I also own a Glock 27, I wouldn't call it soulless but I see what you mean. I trust my Glock as much as my sp-101 but yes there is something about a revolver that not even a 1911 can touch IMO.

IMO. The only thing that can make a 5 shot revolver better is to make it a Colt six-shooter.USA1 wrote:The only thing that can make a 5 shot revolver better is the addition of a set of Laser Grips IMO.

Re: Beginning to love revolvers
I prefer my Glocks for "serious" duty (26 for carry, 34 and 20 for home defense). More capacity, faster reloads, and rails for light&laser on the larger two. However, for shooting pleasure, they can't beat my revolvers. I've got a Model 29 classic, blue with the 6 1/2" barrel for my Dirty Harry fantasy fix. I've got a 327PD that's fun with 38's and a downright blast with the 357 magnums (super light weight with aluminum frame and titanium cylinder). I've also got a Taurus 970 Tracker .22lr. Not impressed with the feel of the action, but it's pretty darn accurate and cheap to shoot. Have owned a GP100, 44Mag Blackhawk, and Taurus 44 in the past.
Just something about a double action revolver that makes me smile.

Re: Beginning to love revolvers
My first pistol was a Colt Python bought in 1976 and was a wonderful gun. I hate that I sold it a few years later
. One of best shooting guns I have ever owned. It was without a doubt the smoothest trigger pull I ever felt. I can say that it, and all of my other wheel guns , it always went bang when it was suppose to. What I find hard to believe is the cost of the wad cutter ammunition. That stuff use to be dirt cheap, less than $5.00 a box. About the most I spent was $12.00 to $15.00 for 125 gr .357 Mag. While I now carry a Glock, I have a special place in my heart for wheel guns.

My G26 appears to have the rail as well.punkndisorderly wrote:I prefer my Glocks for "serious" duty (26 for carry, 34 and 20 for home defense). More capacity, faster reloads, and rails for light&laser on the larger two.

I too love revolvers. I think they carry better than semi's and just as powerful. I also enjoy shooting revolvers more at the range. I think long range I am more accurate with a revolver than a semi-auto. When I say long range I mean over 50yds away by the way...

It's also less tiring to reload a cylinder every 5 or 6 shots than a magazine every 10 to 15.RECIT wrote:I too love revolvers. I think they carry better than semi's and just as powerful.
