Got a new "Truck" carry.

I wanted to get a truck carry gun/range gun that was reliable and under 300 bucks out the door. New or used it didn't matter but to be honest the last week I had a real hard time trying to find reasonable prices on used handguns in shops, gunbroker or in the gunshows. They are very over inflated, even more then last year. I wanted something I wouldn't really care about if it got stolen and had little sentimental value. Anyways I went to the gun show this week in Houston and I eyed a really nice 2 3/4 stainless steel Ruger Security six. Problem was the guy wanted way to much and honestly it was to pretty and nice for a "Truck" gun. Well after not really finding anything a gentlemen who I passed several times offered a new in box Ruger P95 non stainless for 280.00 after tax. It was the last one he had and was on display from 9:00am-12:00 noon so he dropped the price 20 bucks. Needless to say I finally got a P series and now have another Ruger.

I will see if I can get pics up but it is just a standard run of the mill P95. Nothing special.

Sounds like your persistence paid off. I need to do the same. My truck gun (S&W 586 nickel) has become a little too hard to replace and I am pretty bad about not carrying it in every night.

You will be very happy with your new P95 its a very reliable gun as well as accurate and very fun to shoot. I find that it conceals rather easily in the 3-4 o'clock position. Did you get the DC model or the one with a safety?

Safety. I wanted the DC but for $280 bucks I wasn't complaining. I would have rather had a stainless but a couldn't get a great deal on one. The cheapest one I could find would have cost $345 after tax. I will just keep this one lubed up good. Last night I filled the mags with 12 rounds to break them in. I couldn't get more then 12 in the 15 round mag. Tomorrow I plan on putting a few hundred rounds down the pipe.

Just got back from the range. Put 300 rounds down range today. 175 9mm, 60 10mm and 60 .40 S&W. Fun day! Anyways I put three different types of ammo in the Ruger P95. 50 Federal Champion 115 and 100 winchester white box 115. I also put two mags. of black hills 115 grain jhp EXP down range. I first shot all the federal, no problems. Then I put 100 rounds of the white box down range and on about the 95th (145 total) round I had a stove pipe. I cleared it, finished off the mag. and then ran the two mags of Black Hills with no problems.

I would say that is pretty good for a 280 dollar gun. The gun handles well and the DA first shot doesn't bother me at all. I think this is the best gun for the money I have ever had. It was worth every penny! While it is no 1911, S&W or Glock it is a great gun. Accuracy is ok, not as good as my Glocks or S&Ws but then again it is half the cost and the gun is more then accurate for range and self defense at handgun distances. Thursday my girlfriend and I are going and we are putting another 150-200 down range. Great Gun!

Any of the P series guns is a good choice, as far as I'm concerned. The first gun that I ever owned was (or I guess is, since I'm still hanging onto it) a P89, and it's never let me down. I've heard people complain about the triggers on the P series, but I've never had any real problems with mine. There was a while in college where I was putting 50-100 rounds a week through mine and only cleaning it a couple of times a year (I lived on-campus, so my gun had to stay locked up in the campus police armory when it wasn't at the range), and I've never had a single failure of any kind. Ever. No misfires, no FTF, no stovepipes, and that was with some pretty crappy ammo at times, too.

I don't carry that one, since it's pretty much a brick (I'm not a terribly big guy, so it's hard to conceal), but for whatever my opinion's worth, I don't think that you could do better for a truck gun. That's what I'd leave in my vehicle if I still lived out in the sticks.
